I'm sure that the Brits/Europeans are happy about our successes last night.

it should begin calling home five times every hour on Monday. Maybe it just doesn't know anyone in Europe it wants to talk to.

Spirit is larger and more complex than Beagle 2, which weighed only 60 kg and cost less than a tenth of the £545m budget for the rover and its twin, Opportunity.Have they ever heard of "You get what you pay for"?

If Beagle has not activated its Solar Panels by now, it unfortunately will not have enough power even to activate itself.

When I heard this morn about NASA success, I have to admit I got all misty eye. After that tragic loss of the space shuttle this is a HUGH :) success and extremely encourging for them. God bless NASA and God bless the USA!!

Even though it feels good to have a success for NASA, and to one-up the European Space Agency, I really do wish that they'd find the Beagle. It was designed to do different things than our craft, and we need as much knowledge about Mars as we can get.

If nothing is heard from Beagle via Mars Express, the fate of the craft may never be known. Maybe they can send the rover Spirit over to take a few photos of the impact site and debris.

Q. Why do the English drink warm beer?
A. They have English refrigerators.
