Not sure how long it's been there. Probably one of the newer bridges on the lower Mississippi

the new bridge will be done by 2010. It will over 200 feet wide.
It's about time. Last I saw it was going to take 15 years. It will definitely make the trip to the relatives' less nerve wracking.

It will be one big bridge...
From 30+ to 15 to 6...
And, Finally, THE Design Is Chosen
For 18 months, from February 2000 until July 2001, the Illinois and Missouri Departments of Transportation worked with citizens and officials from throughout the St. Louis region to identify a world-class design for a new Mississippi River Bridge north of downtown.
And now, the process is complete.
The selected design is a world-record-breaking, signature structure that will further define the region's skyline for generations to come --- a river spanning cable-stayed bridge with three planes of cables and two single-pylon towers inclined nine degrees from the river and soaring 435 feet above the roadway. The bridge design comes from a team headed by Modjeski and Masters, a 108-year-old firm recognized for its state-of-the-art bridge and highway engineering.
A Bridge That Sets World Records
At 222 feet in width, the bridge will be the world's widest cable-stayed structure. The main span of 2,000 feet will be the longest clear span across the Mississippi River, the longest cable-stayed span in the Western hemisphere and the fifth-longest cable-stayed span in the world. And it will be the first major cable-stayed bridge to use three planes of cables in the main span.
The bridge will include eight main-line traffic lanes, with shoulders that afford the potential for four additional lanes in the future.

That's okay. I thought it was still in the works, but things do slip by me rather easily these days.
And I meant to correct an earlier post by somebody. The Eads was built between 1870 and 1874. In the first year the casualty rate due to the bends was really high while they were putting the middle support all the way to the bottom of the river. It was built right. That's one sturdy bridge.
