What did you tell King? We're gonna boot him out of office? LOL!

I'm sure he made it clear that the new "death with dignity" laws are infallible, foolproof, and his personal contribution to society? (Barf).

Byrd is on the right side. I wonder if he knows the inside scoop at Party Headquarters there.

Of course! I won't vote for him again if he doesn't go with Wise's bill. Republican, pro-life? Yeah, his aid is very well trained! LOL

I told her that I think they (the legislators) have enough experience to get this done without "causing any constitutional problems" (her basic synopsis)

I know on one of the previous threads there was info that he voted against a bill (SB 212 I think) but his aid claims that it's not true that he voted against (what I said) 'were sanitary requirements for abortion clinics' and I don't feel like he is sensitive to womens' issues. I told her I know that I read it and would copy and mail it to her.

I'm trying to find this info now, if anyone else knows where it is right off the top of your head, I'd appreciate it.

"I called King's office and if you call be prepared!"

With what, I wondered, hip waders? Ok, I was game for the challenge, so I put them on & called . . .

Some interesting words were used . . . including "derail his previous legislation", for real. He feels he has done enough and is ready to move on to other business facing him.

In fairness to him -- I'm sure he does have a lot facing him. I'll give him that. We shouldn't King bash or render him ineffective for other issues that we will hope he can be more conservative on.

But why not allow Sen. Wise, also R - Jax, to work on SB 692, to correct any problems with FL current "right to die" statutes, which obviously DO exist, given that Terri remains in danger? That's where I disagree w/King, and told her so.

I'm not a lawyer, I don't even play one on TV, so I hope others will jump in.

He wants to put this to bed, he's spent a lot of time on this, and is ready move on -- but he's making up the bed with poor Terri in it!

did a quick google search -- is this it? http://www.frtl.org/legislation/womens%20health%20and%20safety%20petition.htm
Senator JIM KING, we the undersigned, strongly petition you for the sake of the women of Florida, to allow the Women's Health and Safety Act (SB 212) to be heard this session.

This bill does not restrict a woman's right to have an abortion.  However, for the women who make the choice of abortion, this bill will protect their health and raise the level of safety comparable to medical standards required in ambulatory surgical centers and doctor's offices.  This bill will provide rules for abortion clinics performing abortions after the first trimester, which calls for a higher standard of care.

Currently, the Fla. Statute only requires the rules to conform to health standards for first-trimester (up to 12 wks. of pregnancy) abortions.  Now, abortion clinics advertise in the yellow pages and elsewhere in Florida for abortion services up to the third-trimester 28 wks. of pregnancy.

Haven't yet found vote info, but from the fact that Florida Right to Life had these petitions, it looks as though he wasn't, shall we say, enthusiastic that SB 212 come to the floor. Is he primed to be touchy since Wise got input from RTL for SB 692?

that's it...

I did find on FL Christian Coalition site that the bill died in 'Senate Committee", I know there is more info and I guess I may have to get some 'hip waders' to go through old posts...sigh....

You got the same thing as me when you called...LOL

I was like, why can't King just stop Wise in the hallway somewhere and tell him what he needs to fix in order to get a vote on the bill? LOL

I know! That's what I said to her, too: why can't King and Wise work together to correct the obvious deficiencies? If King is unable to control the debate and work with a capable senator like Wise -- maybe he shouldn't be senate pres.

I also said King shouldn't apologize for voting for Terri's bill or wonder if he'd done the right thing -- you'd think he had to hold his breath to do so! So King is willing to hang Jeb out to dry if need be?

FL RTL site:

"GOOD WORK!!!!  Women's Health and Safety Act (SB 212) will be  heard in the Health, Aging, and Long Term Care Senate Committee on Monday, April 21.

Don't forget to thank Senate President Jim King for allowing the bill to be heard in committee."

NOTE: Again, I want to be fair to Sen. King in all this -- he does have personal experience with the "right to die"/"death with dignity" issue with his parents. There was an article about this a while back, but haven't been able to find it again online.

Another group was not so kind to Sen. King's attempts to quash SB 212 in committee:

Florida State Senator Jim King Blocks Women's Bill

House Bill 219, Senate Bill 212, the Woman's Health and Safety Act, would require abortion clinics to maintain the same standards that are demanded of surgical outpatient clinics. HB 219, having passed committee, is ready to be addressed by the Florida senate, but senate president Jim King refuses to allow it on the agenda.

What does Senator King have against women? Why won't he allow them to have the same health and safety precautions that are available in other surgical centers? Why is King, a Republican, blocking the vote on this bill? In so doing whose agenda is King supporting?

The Florida Catholic Conference, the Silent No More post-abortive women, and pro-life groups are lobbying to get this bill before the senate. ...Please contact Senator Jim King at his Tallahassee office by e-mail: king.james.web@leg.state.fl.us. Telephone: 1-850-487-5030, or Fax: 1-850-487-5368, immediately and request he allow SB 212 to go forth for a full vote.

patient in a vegetative state

I think we ought to stop using that word. It really has no meaning and is a pejorative.

continue to provide treatment

I'm sorry but I will never consider food and water to be "medical treatment."

Is Deep 6 peddling his radical unconstitutional views once again here on Terri's threads? This person is not out for the rights of those to live life, only those to be killed! Deep 6 is a TROLL on this thread!

Hey Deep 6 shouldn't we just pull the plug on all aids patients that stand even less chance of any recovery than Terri does? Why should we keep funding aids patients and expect them to receive any rehabilitation, when their chances of recovery are none, and then if the drugs help at all they go out and do the same act and behaivor that got them the STD in the first place.

I agree. All that is contained within the article I posted, not to be confused with my own comments!

Any person who removes a feeding tube from another whose nourishment depends on that device is the proximate cause of death barring other trauma or acute event; to say otherwise, or to believe otherwise is merely a comfortable fiction.

Sen. King sponsored Florida's 1988 Death With Dignity living-will law that allows terminally ill patients to refuse artificial life support or feeding tubes, but that law does not apply to Schiavo because she does not have a living will. Even if she did, questions could remain, because she is not, by definition, terminally ill.

I take your point. I haven't contacted Sen. King but I would be polite. I keep my hyperbole in house at FR. Mostly. When I see more of a consensus as to what to ask for and when, here on FR, I will contact King or whoever in an appropriate manner. If you don't see me around when it's time to act feel free to ping me.

In the meantime I'll keep my eyes open for a chance to take Sen. Gollum's pwecious legacy away from him if he fails to do the right thing. ;^)

I'm certain every human body that can no longer remain alive without artificial support would welcome the thought of the government deciding that the body must be kept somehow "alive", for the sake if those that are so sympathetic to some religious-bent purpose of keeping a non-alive body "alive".

Oh, we must get the Islamist position on this!!!

The following is what I sent to Jim King on October 20th:

The House just passed "Terri's Bill," and it's not even 11:00PM yet. I see that the Senate will not reconvene until tomorrow at 6:45PM!!! For heaven's sake!!! Your sleep is more important than averting a murder!!! I've seen New York's City Council stay up half the night over A BUDGET, no less!!!

If that woman dies, I hope you think about her suffering every time you so much as take a sip of water.

And let me tell you one more thing: when YOUR time comes, God won't be impressed by your hospice awards.

************************************

I have the impression that the respectfully direct approach is effective with him.
