The 11/22/63 speech to the Trade Mart in Dallas that Kennedy didn't live to give [JFK the neo-con]

There will always be dissident voices heard in the land, expressing opposition without alternatives, finding fault but never favor, perceiving gloom on every side and seeking influence without responsibility. Those voices are inevitable [and are running for the right to challenge Bush next November].

I think you need to send this phrase to the RNC. I know it may seem like a waste of time. But you've picked out a great, great line.

I emailed it to one of our two RNC committee members.

JFK would have been a Republican, and probably a neocon if he were alive today.

That was a great speech. And he never gave it.

Profound.

Lets not put any eggs in the JFK basket. The honeymoon about him is ending - as the generation that were enamored by him and Camelot pass on, become senile, etc, he will be regarded less and less.

He was pretty Conservative by today's standards. I've read some of JFK's speeches on such issues as taxes and the economy over the years, and they resemble the same core beliefs as that of Reagan (who was also a Neo-Con). I truly believe JFK would have been a Neo-Con merely on the same basis as Reagan and Goldwater. The Democrats of today have abandoned the ideals of FDR and JFK. Reagan and Goldwater on the other hand become Republicans because the Democratic party abandoned them, not the other way around. The only thing that has remained the same in the Democratic party is the "Me! Me! Me!" attitude. Which is why JFK's infamous and timeless "Ask Not..." speech resonates so well in Conservative minds of today.

Like everyone over the age of 45 I remember every detail of the day Kennedy was shot. But it is my firm belief that the world lost an even more significant human being that day.

For all the fame, notoriety and political eloquence of JFK, his lasting contribution to things that really matter pales in comparison with the legacy of C.S. Lewis who also died on November 22, 1963.

>>>He was pretty Conservative by today's standards. I've read some of JFK's speeches on such issues as taxes and the economy over the years, and they resemble the same core beliefs as that of Reagan (who was also a Neo-Con).

In his day, JFK was strong on defense and supported tax cuts. With the top income tax rate at 90%, that was a no brainer, even for him. He lowered it to 70%. Reagan would later take that down to 50% and then to 28%. But to call JFK a neocon is ridiculous and to call Ronald Reagan a neocon is absolutely absurd.

JFK was a liberal Democrat in 1960 and if he was alive today, he would be another liberal voice just like his fat brother. JFK supported the standard Democratic agenda of his day. That included the New Deal agenda of FDR and the Fair Deal agenda of Harry Truman. That meant full speed ahead on Social Security and national healthcare. The latter policy eventually led to the creation and passage of the 1965 Medicare program.

Even though Ronald Reagan supported and voted for FDR, he was never a political "liberal" in the same sense as was Irving Kristol. Reagan was always politically conservative and by 1952 was backing Eisenhower for President.

Graduate Research Center of the Southwest

Now the University of Texas-Dallas. They were graduate students only until 1975, and then juniors and seniors as well until 1990. I took a few courses there in the mid 90s. It's a "commuter" school. Founded by Texas Instruments people, such as J. Erik Jonsson, whom the engineering school is named after, along with Eugene McDermott and Cecil Green.

I was only four when Kennedy died so I really don't know much about his Presidency. Scandals aside, I'm curious to know - was JFK really all that bad as a President ?

Didn't Aldous Huxley die the same day as well?
Talk about getting lost in the shuffle...

Yep, Huxley, too. But if anyone gets the red carpet treatment, it was most likely C.S. Lewis.

Interesting how ABC's live coverage that day reports several times that JFK was on his way to the Trademart to make a speech addressing "right wing fanatacism".
