"...the Siberian traps are large enough to have covered a major impact crater..."What were the Siberians trying to trap? Why did they need such large traps? Could this have led to the extinction of the Woolly Mammoth? (We know they built their huts out of them.)

The Eye in God's Moat.
I just put that on my Amazon Wish List when I went hunting for the link to Lucifer's Hammer.
Lucifers Hammer
Is it similarly as good?

I wouldn't want to have to fill His shoes, though following in the footsteps is fairly easy going.

"Is it similarly as good?"It's been a while since I read it. As I recall, it is better from a technical explanation side of things, while not being quite as suspenseful. (The Mote in God's Eye).
On the other, other hand, (as the Moties would say), it's the kind of read that makes you want to start building a starship in your garage.

On the other, other hand, (as the Moties would say)Actually, it's "on the one hand blah blah blah, on the other hand blah blah blah, but the gripping hand is blah blah blah."

"...Orbital Battleship..."I'm a little low on the explosive devices.
Besides, that's rather a jerry-rigged ship plan, I have much more elegant designs now. Problem is, my garage isn't big enough.

BTW, Freeman Dyson's son has written a book about Orion. Very readable, and it says a lot of interesting things.

"...Freeman Dyson's son has written a book..."Cool! I'll have to check that out. It would really be cool to be within the Dyson sphere of influence.
My father, however, was not a famous writer. He was a good carpenter, though! So instead of being a chip off the old block, I'm sort of a splinter off the old wedge.

Which type of watermelon are you talking about? The ones in the Green party who are green on the outside and red or yellow on the inside or the fruit that is green on the outside and is red or yellow on the inside.
I think if you shot a fruit one (not a gay member of the Green party) you would be wasting the bullet and some good food, however if you didn't want the bullet to go to waste
