You are engaging with heat, not light.
What about his 7 points? You havent logically engaged as to why they *werent* contributors to secession.
btw, the fact that only 5% of southerners were slaveowners is not a refutation. look at politics in general: Just a few trial lawyers control the Democrat party in places now - like Texas and Alabama, etc. surely the slaveowners were prominent and had influence.

sw, maybe it (slavery a reason for secession and civil war) was a part of the truth... there are always complex factors in events like this. Just as it is extreme to say slavery was the sole faction, it seems extreme to suggest slavery was not a major factor at all - when at least some secessionists were open about that being their prime reason.
Are there any historians you can point to backing up your view on this?
BTW, the way I was taught in HS (northern 'damnyankee' school :-) ) was that slavery was one of several reasons for the Civil War (aka War Between the States).

NOPE and i'm not going to, as N-S always puts out the same lies, exagerations & drivel AND i've refuted the same points MANY times.
he is like one of those weighted bunnies, that you knock down & that pop back up every time.
he is also a stranger to truth, as NOTHING ever done by the damnyankees was EVER less than saintly. (like the slaughter of 92 members of MY family for example, who were murdered just because they were NOT white people.)
he is only & CONSTANTLY a propagandist for the damnyankee cause AND a "nitpicker" of note.
may i suggest that you do a search on his screen-name,read his posts & then come back & we''ll talk.

Thank you. I would like to point out that there are a lot of conservatives besides myself who disagree
I have never quite understood the revisionist desire to make the cause of the war be tariffs. That means the South was willing to risk and then start a war that killed 620,000 Americans over a tax burden that even if they had been paying the entire amount would have amounted to around $6 per capita per year.
Why this is somehow more morally justifiable than a war over the issue of race, which still causes us enormous problems, is very hard for me to understand.

did i say the WBTS was about tariffs?
i think not.
the WBTS was about just ONE cause = dixie LIBERTY.
it was a continuation of the American Revolution & a lust to be FREE of outside influence.
TODAY the thrust for freedom for the southland is still that one wish.

My apologies.
I was responding to a post earlier by yoe, who claimed that the war was all about tariffs.
the WBTS was about just ONE cause = dixie LIBERTY.
I'm sorry, but this is just silly. If I decide I want a divorce, it's not because of some abstract desire to be FREE, it's because I'm POed at my wife about something.
The South was not being oppressed prior to the war. (After the war was another story.)
What, in your opinion, were the massive injustices perpetrated against the South that justified them in starting a war that killed 620,000 Americans?

you ask the WRONG question.
the REAL question is why did the damnyankees insist on not allowing the southland to be free and thereby kill about a MILLION people???
the answer to that question was that the damnyankees have forever been afflicted with arrogance, intolerence, puritanism of a 100 sorts, self-righteousness AND seem to be unable and/or unwilling to leave the southland (and everybody else in the world; damnyankees are the worst of IMPERIALISTS!) to itself and not to meddle in local affairs, which are NONE of their business.
it is precisely the same today. damnyankees are the genesis of "gun control", abortion on demand, forced school busing, social experimentation, promotion of sexual perversions and a hundred other crusades.
interestingly enough, the damnyankee elites only want those "improvements" for those whom they see as their intellectual, social & moral INFERIORS!
as just one example, the damnyankees wanted school desegregation in the south BUT they (50 years later!) still have the VAST majority of their schools SEGREGATED!
Mississippi, according to a 2001 survey by the USDoEd, has more racially/ethnically INTEGRATED public schools than "TAX-a-two-cetts does", despite having a population which is less than 20% of that of MA!
one wonders how many MILLION INNOCENTS the damnyankees would be willing to kill to keep the south AND "the republic of azatlan" in a "union of the UN-willing" in 2005-2010????
i fear we will live to see just such a slaughter;the south, southwest & inter-mountain west will NOT continue long to remain, imVho, subserviant to the damnyankees.

I understand that you hate "yankees." However, in previous posts you stated that the South seceded because of intolerable oppression by them, and that it had little or nothing to do with slavery or tariffs. Since those are the primary reasons for secession that I've seen put forward, I wondered what specific acts of oppression you were talking about.
BTW, a rant like your last post won't convince anyone of anything except your anger. Try dialing it down a notch and posting facts or a point of view rather than a diatribe.
