No, and with my ears that's a good thing! There would have been a lot of dented hulls and dead whales!

He's now formaly addressed as: David Gilmor CBE
The Mosr Excellent Order of the British Empire was founded in 1917. It is the newest of the British Crown's six active orders of chivalry. (Three more no longer have apointments made to them) If I recall correctly, it has four degrees:
Member: MBE (The four Beatles got this in the 60's)
Commander: CBE
Knight Commander: KCBE
Knight Grand Cross: GCBE
(I'm doing this from memory, but I think I got the four ranks right.)

I as lucky enough to see Roger Waters in concert when he toured the U.S. GREAT SHOW !!!!!
I hopw I don't have to wait another 12 years for him to tour the U.S.
By the way, Gilmour is an incredible guitarist. One of the best ever, but grossly under-rated.
He shoud be in anyone's top 5. (Clapton, Hendrix, Towhshend, Gilmour, and perhaps the late Duane Allman or Steve Vai, or Ingwae Malstein ? I know the spelling is wrong, but that can't be checked with spellchecker !!)

I have seen that, and it is.
Dave Gilmour is one of the most underrated of the guitar greats of the sixties and seventies, and is very deserving of commendation by his monarch.
Here's to you, dear boy, have a cigar, you're gonna far--
You're gonna fly high, you're never gonna die, you're gonna make it if you try--
They're gonna love you.

I remember a special on Showtime with Les Paul, David Gilmour, Eddie VanHalen, Steve Miller and a few more. It was a great show.
Gilmour is one of the best.

From what I've read, DG is a really decent guy, and has done a lot of charity work, mostly behind the scenes.
As for his music, he's one of the few guitarists who you can almost always identify. He's not particularly showy or flashy in his playing, and unlike many of today's guitarists, he can get more emotion and feeling with what he doesn't play than what they do!
He's got an amazing sense of time and great style on the guitar. BTW, for a real treat, you might want to check him out on his (mostly) acoustic solo performance DVD, "David Gilmour in Concert." It's really something else.

I'm not sure where he fits into my Top___ list, but for a long time I've said he's the most underrated guitarist alive. He was so refreshing to listen to back in the eight-finger tapping, 2,000,000 note a minute 80s. He could play one note, the right note, for 16 bars, letting the rest of the music change around that one note, and do more than Yngwie, Jeff Watson, Paul Gilbert, Brad Gillis, or any of those hair band sh**birds. Where the hell are
they now? Listening to Dave Gilmour, just like us!

How's about an other:
The Dogs Of War
Pink Floyd
|
Dogs of war and men of hate With no cause, we don't discriminate Discovery is to be disowned Our currency is flesh and bone Hell opened up and put on sale Gather round and haggle For hard cash, we will lie and deceive Even our masters don't know the webs we weave
On world, it's a battleground One world and they smash it down One world
one world
Invisible transfers, long distance calls Hollow laughter in marble halls Steps have been taken, a silent uproar Has unleashed, the dogs of war You can't stop what has begun Signed, sealed, they deliver oblivion We all have a dark side, to say the least And dealing in death is the nature of the beast
On world, it's a battleground One world and they smash it down One world
one world
The Dogs of War don't negotiate The Dogs of War won't capitulate They will take and you will give And you must die so that they may live You can knock at any door But wherever you go, you know they've been there before Well winners can lose and things can get strained But whatever you change, you know the dogs remain
On world, it's a battleground One world and we're going to smash it down One world
one world
