I'm not sure they know how to do exit polls in ms.

Now, now. Be charitable.

Zell has already nixed that idea and stated his reasons recently in a Sean Hannity interview.

He reiterated that he had no intention of changing parties in tonight's interview with Brit Hume.

Here is the source. You need to click on the year 2000 and Missisippi and then the "counties" button.

OK dammit. Where are the numbers? I see nothing on the Memphis local affiliates and nothing on FNC, MSNBC, or CNN. Anyone have any numbers?

I just checked ...Warren is 55% white.

Alcorn is heavily white and Monroe is 2/3rd white.

little facts one never knew.

Jefferson county on the other hand is 87% black....home of the tort kings.

In Mississippi, to be directly elected Governor, a candidate must win a majority of the popular vote, and win a majority (61 or more) of the house districts (automatic "electoral votes"). Last time (1999), Musgrove finished first with 49.5 percent of the vote (and so failed on the first criterion) and won 60 of the house districts (and so failed on the second criterion as well). Therefore, the House elected the Governor (that is, Musgrove). It is theoretically possible that Barbour could finish first with less than 50 percent (because of three minor party candidates), or even get a majority of the popular vote but get less than 61 electoral votes. In such a case, the overwhelmingly Democratic House would maybe re-elect Musgrove. I think this is unlikely, but ...

Just got back from the polls in Ridgeland, MS (Madison, Co.). The reports of heavy turnout appear to be accurate. My polling place is one of about 5 in Ridgeland, and I estimate that ~1500 people came through that one polling place today.

***Alcorn seems to about the statewide voting pattern almost precisely***

Yep, that sums it up. The MS-01, (Rep. Roger Wicker's district), decides the outcome of MS statewide races. In 1999, MS-01 voters solidly supported Musgrove. In 2001, the area voted to keep the Confederate symbol on the state flag. Whoever carries the MS-01 tonight shall be the next Governor of MS. Earlier today, both sides on the various cable news shows were bragging about record turnout in MS. Let's hope the high turnout benefits Haley.

Here in very white Republican Madison County the lines were much longer than usual. A very pro Haley area. Also from a high Musgrove source(personal friend and our only liberal friend) seems there was some intimidation going on in the Delta. Something about video taping voters. Supposedly illegal. WHould it be a tight race we might hear more about this.

Zell won't change. He likes this I think. He's a lightning rod to try to shift the balance of his party.

He's seems pretty conservative compared to his peers but he's really just a modrut and a bit pc on some things....in my view.

course...he's a damned sight better than Snowe or Chaffee for sure.
