For sure she said Great View Lane, just now.
To: Brad's Gramma
Just located Greatview Lane on the map. It's south and not far from Lake Gregory.

Sad thing is that one guy was to have his home ini Scripps Ranch reroofed tomorrow. The only two homes left standing on one street of 29 homes were reroofed only a few months ago.

What are they saying about the fire being intentionally set? I think it may be the ELF crowd. Hope I'm wrong.

Thanks for that update. I saw a TV interview 90 minutes ago with a FF in Julian who sounded pretty confident that they had a chance at least of putting up one helluva a fight at the town, in part because they can use the prior burn that went on up there before.

Me too. Lots of really nice second homes on the drive up 79. The total acres burned in So Cal is over 500,000. :-( My coworkers all made it back intact and the folks in Lakeside are ok. There were 3 managers living in Poway/Scripps Ranch and all have their homes still. Now we can hope the Paradise and Cedar fires stay separate.

Someone somewhere in FR has a graphic from the movie Volcano which incidentally was set in SoCal wasn't it?

Thanks for the new thread. I'm going to sleep but want everyone who is in possible danger to know you continue in my prayers. Thanks to all who are doing such a great job keeping us informed.

I heard on the local news that there were 200 FF trying to protect Julian.
Please Holy God help them.

Firefighters watch a monstrous cloud of smoke approach as a ten mile wide wall of fire climbs the mountains in the Lake Cuyamaca area just south of the town of Julian, Calif. Tuesday Oct. 28, 2003. (AP PHoto/Lenny Ignelzi)
To: cyborg
Yes it is.. the smoke's invaded my territory as of this evening and let me tell you.. acrid, burning, nasty, caustic foul air. You can even taste it on your tongue, and it sounds weird -- like a snowy day except unpleasant.
ho down. ha!

Anyone know anything new about Stevenson Ranch? My dear friend lives in the west end of it, probably not far from where the fire is on top of that ridge. She vacated with her 4 kids earlier today, and her hubby went back to pack up the stuff. It was a voluntary evacuation, but I believe most people left because there are only two routes out of S.R. and even with the voluntary evac, they were at a standstill this afternoon.

There is a large flameup 1 mile east of the 15 @ 138.....guess they will send more strike teams...
To: cyborg
On that other thread, it sounds like a crazy guy of Armenian extraction who was caught starting one small fire.

Stevenson Ranch is safe...the media is blowing it all up

Scanner: Fire is just reaching the crest of the hill at 138.

The Simi Valley fire, Grand Prix fire, and Old Fire (aka Old Waterman fire) were all arson.
There's a composite police picture of the suspect on the Old fire available at
http://www.rimoftheworld.net Whether these were ELF or not doesn't matter right now; the fact is that the fires are still burning. There's other threads around discussing the possible ELF or terrorist origins of the fires, but this thread (like the other live threads before it) were designed more as current incoming fire news threads, as well as discussion of the movement of the fires, inquiries from out-of-staters on areas their families might be in, etc.
