Keller Peak is also next to the Children's Forest. It's a place that teaches kids about the forest, walk through interpretive deal.
http://www.sbnfa.org/Main_Lookout/keller.htm
The peak, though not the first lookout built on the San Bernardino National Forest, it is the oldest "original" tower. It is located three miles east of Running Springs at elevation 7882 ft (2317 m). The Keller Peak topographical map shows the lookout at 34-11-45 N and 117-02-56 W. The peak is reached from the Keller Peak road from Highway 18, 1.5 miles east of Running Springs. It has a fire lookout, cliffs and a meadow adjacent. The National Children's Forest is located on the road from the highway to the peak.
All of the places are named for Ally Carlin Keller, born in San Bernardino in 1868, who at one time was an employee of the Forest Service. His father, Carlin Keller, was an early pioneer in the area. This picture shows the Osborne Fire Finder that is still in use. (click for larger image) You can view two memorial plaques at Keller Peak lookout. The first designates the 1926-built tower as an historic landmark. The second, located 200 yards (175 m) to the west, marks the spot where a B-26 bomber crashed December 30, 1941. Some of the wreckage is still visible.

hey.. thought you were gone. I'm ready to start another thread unless you want to
To: erikm88
thanks Erik - I hadn't heard anything about the camp. Ridge Burns spoke at our church this past summer and raised the concern about the dead trees and the tinderbox out there but concluded that God is their provider and it's His camp.
To: lainie

I believe some HAM guy helped CDF reclone their radios.....
To: BurbankKarl
Probably them Bendix King handheld radios. We always run into that and you need a special cable to clone radio to radio

As soon as someone, hint hint, starts a new thread, I'm going to be contacting rimoftheworld and telling them about our thread.
I have the email all ready to go, waiting for the new link.
I'm gonna go to signsonsandiego and do the same in a minute. Those messages are so desperate that the people are putting up. It's so sad.

you can ass this for online scanner
Big Bear online scanner feed for CDF, cops, air attack etc.
Go to Yahoo.com and register if you're not a member. Once you register you can go into any chat room
In the text box of your chosen chatroom type:
/join the old fire scanner:1
This should take you directly to the room where there is a live feed of the Big Bear scanner that was abandoned today 10/29. There is also live chat there from other people affected by the Old Fire in the Lake Arrowhead, Crestline, Big Bear Area.
