Well I think I was the first dissent on a long thread. Take care John. Another week of hell, and I will become somewhat more human again.

I will agree with your assessment of post-strike baseball. My attitude and involvement is nowhere NEAR where it used to be. Mine devolved a little more gradually with each successive strike over what must have been about 15 years.

The fact also remains that a way-too-high % of teams is feeding profusely at the public trough. That's one thing I can say about "my" Cubs; they may be losers but they're not leeches.

Steinbrenner, BTW, is a first-class leech who has threatened to move the team to Jersey at least once.

I thought it was unwise to bring Wakefield in. It is not so much that someone can figure him out, it is that knuckleballers are unpredictable. Sometimes they are on and sometimes off. In this situation, you want a sure thing, someone reliable. Wakefield is not by any means. A knuckleballer is not a reliever. No way should he have been in there. Red Sox fans will be furious over this call, already seen it here on FR.

When it come down to it, all of the cities are liberal bastions. New York, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Buffalo. All Liberal strongholds. Our hope lies in the suburbs.

Agreed he should not be censured for his opinion. He should be ridiculed in public, but that won't happen.

Wasn't Scott Williamson (Cincy's gift to Boston, like Boone was Cincy's gift to the Yanks) available?

I'm sure Little's thinking was that he had befuddled the Yankees for two games, and that he could hold the fort. But you are right. So much of the knuckleball depends upon elements beyond the pitcher's control (humidity, wind currents,) that makes it a crap shoot in a crucial situation.

"Scott Williamson has stepped up to give the Red Sox some much-needed reliability as the closer of the moment."
This quote was taken right off ESPN`s website.

Most Yankee fans, most (if not ALL ) of the team members, and certainly ALL of FR's YNKEE FANS ARE conservatives.

I shouldn't have to parse your posts, in order to fully understand their " true " meaning. And I haven't, not once, claimed that ALL Boston fans are Liberals...a sorry lot, whose most cherished dream won't come true, yes...Liberal, was someone else.

This was a great game; one for the books, for both sides.

Hope is entirely personal. I have it in spades. Living in a very liberal community in New England, I can still ignore "the force" of liberals. They hate being ignored. Raising a smart, well mannered, very responsible set of young humans to carry on -- to have their own "hope," and to exercise their own independence.

I'm scared about the direction of national politics. The momentum seems to be for MORE government, not less. Less personal responsibility, less tolerance for "being down and out," more of a drive to a guaranteed standard of living, no effort required. Take away the pressure and the creature will loaf.

I love country living, wouldn't give it up for anything.

I don't get why he didn't use Williamson before Wakefield. If it's still tied after 11-12, you at least held them off with your best arm. Nothing against Wakefield, but he shouldn't have been the A option if Williamson was available.

What kills me is that goverment, at virtually every level, is looked upon to "solve" all of the problems of the world. Some problems can't be solved. Some problems might be solved, but not without bankrupting the community. And even the ones that can be solved, can probably solved a lot cheaper than how government usually operates. I have a major distrust of politicians. Even the republicans usually go for the "raise taxes" card at the first sign of trouble.

That question is for the pages of baseball history.

I was inclined to be for the Sox, unitl I got wind of how the Leftist Rats were going to use it in conjunction w/ their convention next year. Also the hateful guy who runs moveon.org was for them. It'unfortunate how the loony Left tried to co-opt the Sox, well I hope they emulate them and lose big in 2004. It's a shame that Chicago and Boston are cursed, I suggest those cities should stop being Leftist cess pools. Maybe then the curse will be gone.

The Red Sox could start redeeming themselves in my eyes if someone, ANYONE, would explain to me what the hell "Cowboy up!" was even supposed to mean.
