Cruz needs to win Iowa. Trump can afford to lose Iowa, but Cruz cannot. That's the big difference, and clearly one of the reasons Trump wants to score a knockout here.

If Cruz stumbles in Iowa it's not clear how he regains his footing. A Trump loss here would be a disappointment but as everyone expects him to win New Hampshire handily an Iowa loss will be chalked up to Iowa's tradition of being an outlier in the nomination race. A split between Cruz and Trump (Cruz winning Iowa, Trump New Hampshire) would make South Carolina more crucial for both. If Trump wins the first two contents Cruz will be at a serious disadvantage in SC as momentum would clearly be against him.

The same would be true for Trump if he somehow loses both Iowa and NH, but I don't see anyone predicting that.

Cruz has his campaign organization on the ground there. Thats how to win. Holding rallies is nice but having your support team in daily interaction with the voters is gonna get turnout

Well Cruz could still win Iowa. I think he would have had a better shot if he had avoided Glenn Beck but the person ahead in the Iowa polls does not always win. Trump is nervous about this which is why he is putting the big push on.

I’m a Trump supporter but I have no real idea of who is going to win Iowa. The rest of the table I would put money on Trump.

He don’t have to. He already did. Ask Beck. Go Leafs!

It’s legit. Cruz could win like he says. Let’s watch and see. My $ is on Trump but I won’t be devastated if Cruz wins, so I’ll make the popcorn.

Cruz is better organized and his supporters are more loyal...and willing to take the time to caucus.

I’m hoping that more backers of Carson, Santorum and Rand... Would get smart and rally behind Cruz.
