.
Why would he not stand behind his remarks?
They make good sense, as Trump continues to fall with informed voters.
Oh! - I see, you’re the cognitively impaired troll.

<< Trump did not start this. >>>
Exactly!
This had to come, and Trump let Cruz choose the hour.
Like “High Noon”.

What you say is true, “but”. Trump is teaching manners. He is giving a little tutorial on being open and public if you are going to challenge the judgment of an opponent.
If it leaks out and this did, there’s a price to be paid. Trump is giving Cruz a heads up, for the future, but has little need to punch down, since he is the front runner and is smoking the field.

"Itâs hard for me to understand why people prefer Trump to Cruz. I donât understand the strong emotional attachment. I have a stong emotional attachment to Reagan now, but it developed over time and mostly after the fact." Yes, and I would venture to say that your attachment to Reagan is of a different variety, not characterized by hysteria or hero-worship. It's a more mellow, sensible thing.
Bottom line, for me to support Trump would require me to completely ignore the man's past and everything he's ever said up until the point he declared his run. It makes no logical sense to do so, and I'm not about to.

Yeah, that’s another reason to stick with Cruz-—I want an adult in the White House.
