I simply do not understand arguments which resort to relativism. I do not believe it is right to justify one wrong by reference to another wrong. Everybody does it?

I understand that you said that Trump is a smaller Dick and I take that to mean that you are ranking politicians from bad to worse-no politician in your universe being good perhaps even including Washington, Lincoln and Reagan. But that is not so. With all his faults, George Bush was infinitely superior choice to Al Gore or John Kerry. George HW Bush would've been an infinitely superior choice to Bill Clinton.

Because George W. Bush identified himself as a "compassionate" conservative we have come to think that meant that he was no conservative at all. He was a conservative but he was the conservative in the sense that a cafeteria Catholic is a Catholic.

We are confronted as conservatives with the world of grays and we are always trying to paint in primary colors not, as Ronald Reagan said, in pale pastels. The problem is, when a politician-even Ronald Reagan-compromises as he inevitably must to govern rationally in a gray world, we have resort in cynicism. We say, they are all Dicks, they let us down, so to hell with all of them. I do not accuse you of this because you profess to vote for the least bad Dick.

But I do accuse many Freepers of not applying your standard rationally. The only virtue that Donald Trump has for conservatism is that he is relatively not as bad as Barack Obama. In fact, he would unquestionably be infinitely better. But virtually any conservative who is seriously discussed as a potential candidate would be better than Donald Trump.

Trump is no conservative at all. His nostrums are irrational, either cynically designed to pander to an ignorant electorate Huey Long style, or they are symptomatic of a puerile mind. One does not court a trade war with the second largest economy on earth to which your country is indebted so deeply that it it cannot repay. To engage in such a trade war would be catastrophic, it would cascade America into the greatest depression in our history. Trump has no rational plan to remedy the obvious wrongs connected to our trade relationship with China, or with Saudi Arabia for that matter. He has only bluster. Do you really think you can cow the world's biggest country and the world's second-largest economy by threats?

Trumps pandering to a frustrated America amounts to demagoguery.

George Bush was a weak conservative because he was not a doctrinaire conservative like we are. But Donald Trump is no conservative at all. His body is nothing but a life support system for his ego. If he ever became president the whole nation would become nothing but a life-support system for his ego. Barak Obama is dangerous because he is a Manchurian Marxist, but Trump is dangerous because he has no political philosophy beyond Donald Trump.

There are at least 10 other conservatives, bona fide conservatives, men and women who are light-years more conservative than Donald Trump whom we should support. They might all have smaller Dicks-or in some cases no literal Dicks at all-but they are relatively more conservative.

Neither bluster nor gutter speak make the man.

Thank you...I have been saying the same thing about Trumps Ego machine since he started making noise. It is good to see that someone else feels the same because it felt like I was screaming in the woods.

imo all this bolstering/promoting of ‘Trump talk’ is a media strategy to diminish other more qualified but silent GOP contenders. The American middle class...what’s left of it anyway will not be so quick to vote for another ‘no record media darling’ like BO.

I’ve been a long time Donald Trump fan since the mid 80’s but it was only last week I learned his was a Republican. I just hope I’m not McCain-ed into voting for the Donald like the last Pres election.

True enough. And let me suggest to you that this has all been very well-designed and effective theater. Personally, I doubt Trump was ever going to run, the stunt (and that was what it was and is) is for another purpose entirely.

The point would have been to blow the slick Obama machinery out of the water. Trump has done that very well, and is continuuing to do so for a while. *Then* he can step down and let others take it. Just call him a satchel charge. One shot, leaving rubble.

And of course, for us who have paid attention, Trump was always a Republican, an enemy of big govt, and a Patriot.

Also keep in mind:

It's not uncommon there for a woman to surprise you and demand payment the morning after “services” are rendered with big bubba waiting by your door.

In most other places, a woman would be offended if you basically ask “how much”. Especially difficult to ask this question if a 10 is all over you (yes, many are solid 9s and 10s).

It's also not uncommon for wallets and other valuables to go missing...

I hear you, Just last year i almost got snookered by one.
I should have known better, With this one sweet looking lady it never crossed my mind that she was a hooker and i know how nice looking they can be there.
we both wasted around an hour and a half of valuble time talking to each other.
