Do you have some sort of a special license to pontificate on topics on which you're obviously totally ignorant?

To Andy Card, Catastrophism appears to be merely one of many topics on which to be blissfully ignorant.Ted, in all your years (decades?) of ceaseless ranting, what have you accomplished? How many folks have flocked to your cause? As far as I know, you haven't persuaded anybody that the Earth once orbited Saturn. I hate to resort to an argument ad popularity contest, but maybe their's a reason you're universally scorned. Hell, the Flat Earth society has more adherents.

I'm only "universally scorned" amongst jackasses, and guess what? I don't even LIKE jackasses, much less care what they think.

I'm only "universally scorned" amongst jackasses, and guess what? I don't even LIKE jackasses, much less care what they think. Let me rephrase what I said. You're not scorned. If anything, you're pitied. Its your ideas that are scorned. And your definition of "jackass" must be pretty broad, because I have failed to find anybody living, other than yourself, who echoes your views, let alone any qualified scientific professionals. Even so-called creation "scientists" [sic] discount your absurd notions. If that isn't telling, I don't know what is.
And if you really think that only jackasses disbelieve your thesis that the world once revolved around Saturn, you have a dim view of humanity indeed.

...and see if it looks like I'm the "last Velikovskian" on FR, much less in the world... Emmanuel, came to mind immediatley for me. Did you ever read the Pensee articles in the 80s discussing how aspects of his theories were being proved correct. I had posted comments relating to the book Velikivsky, Reconsidered put out by Pensee on the site in years past. It was great reading in the 60s and 70s and then fun to see how much actual space exploration was showing that his outright dismissal by mainstream science was, perhaps, a little overwrought.

...oh, by the way, I am familiar with Ellenberger's great contibutions to the study of E. V.'s theories, but I still consider the field a great study of science as a battlefield of ideas. It is one thing to come fresh to the whole thing now, quite another to have stumbled across this stuff in the 60s and watched (as just an unschooled, but broadly read reader) the battle playout over the ensuing decades. It is much more fun than the corresponding reading watching Theologens argue and debate.
I care little for one side winning complete victory as I often say: "My dog ain't in that fight!"

I care little for one side winning complete victory as I often say: "My dog ain't in that fight!"But one side has won complete victory. That's why its bizarre that Ted continues to expound long-discredited theology based solely upon the literal interpretation of fictional works of literature.

The author made a good case that the better diet and the clearing of forest land for agriculture which may be seen as signs of progress actually contributed to the spread of the plague. I don't know if the same is true of small pox.
Listened to an author of a book on small pox in the US and seemed to spread as different people came into contact with each other. The English or the French gave it to the Indians. It spread across the plains and some plains Indians gave it to the Spanish in New Mexico when they took other Indians there to sell them as slaves. Another aside: Geo Washington had the Americans innoculated against small pox after some British prisoners came up with it. Maybe the most significant strategic move of the war, at least right up there with the French Navy blocking the harbbor at Yorktown.

Catastrophism
Big Bang, Electric Sun, Plasma Physics and Cosmology Etc.
Finding Cities in all the Wrong Places
Given standard theories wrt the history of our solar system and our own planet, nobody should be finding cities and villages on Mars, 2100 feet beneath the waves off Cuba, or buried under two miles of Antarctic ice.

He's more to be pittied than censured.
He's more to be loved than dispised.
He was only a laddie who went on
Catastrophism's path, ill-advised.
Do not scorn him with words fierce and bitter.
Do not laugh at his shame and downfall.
For a moment just stop and consider.
Velikovsky's the cause of it all.
