...Yup, lot's of Australians and South Koreans were fighting for a Free South Vietnam at the time. I remember our 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) Search and Destroy Operations linked to the South Koreans' TIGER Division in the Central Lowlands/Highlands ..most well.

no one his age was drafted unless I don't remember correctly- my brother and his friends were the last batch that I remember and he was born in 53- I was born in 54- Gibson in 56 - he was a kid- not his decision- wasn't he the one with the beat up face like his movie when he was a child? I guess I could look all this up but the freepers are faster and usually more informative with answers!

I suppose it would apply to his older brothers, if true.

I can't find anything on snopes2.com about Gibson, except the old 'Man Without A Face' glurg.

Politics most certainly does play a part. If it were made by "Hollywood" then every American would be raping babies and eating old women alive. You know that.

"The journey home is never a direct route; it is, in fact, always circuitous, and somewhere along the way, we discover that the journey is more significant than the destination, and that the people we meet along the way will be the travelling companions of our memories forever" --Nelson Demille, "Up Country", (2002) According to his book, Demille served '67 and '68 -- Quang Tri Prov. A very good read indeed.

Saw it twice, excellent.

It was interesting to me, as someone who hasn't been in a combat situation, to see what he battlefield looked like prior to the conflict...just a normal green firled that has grass that moves in the down draft caused by the helicopter blaades. Serene.

Those men are the soldiers of all wars, not special, but soldiers, as were the men who fought in WWII. Platoon is a cartoon.

Semper Fi. What happened to the asian soldier burned by napalm? Nakajima?

...This particular Naplam Victim died within a day and that just crushed Landing Zone X-Ray's UPI War Correspondent Joe Galloway (BARRY PEPPER).

...I will NEVER FORGET being ordered to go into that CH-47 Chinook Helicopter fresh from LZ X-Ray at IA DRANG-1965's Landing Zone Falcon to try and identify those young Soldiers who had already been Killed in Action by our own Napalm. NEVER.
