You bet they're in denial...Joey can't do anything wrong. The family's care & concern only goes one way. His aunt lost $15,000 (family members put up the other $3,000) when he jumped bail and she & the other family members won't get it back. Joey also had $13,000 in the bank that he didn't put towards his own bond OR pay his family back. He withdrew that from the bank right before he jumped bail.

His family, including his aunt, Audrey Konopka of De Pere, had posted $18,000 bail in Konopka’s various cases.

Translation - I am either so deeply in denial I cannot be trusted to know my own name, or I am a hard-core leftist that cannot place blame on anyone.

I'd go with the former, rather than the latter. I have a feeling that they're just plain, simple folks who are absolutely befuddled by the actions of this guy, and at the same time, completely conned by him.

You really won't find a lot of sophisticates in northeast Wisconsin.

Actually, they didn't find the cyanide until after he was arrested. He was busted for his break-ins & burglaries in & around the area. I think the Chicago cops were more startled than anything to find the cyanide on him after the arrest.
