A Little History.
The Monica Scandal took our number of Registered Freepers from the 12,000 range to over 30,000. We dropped off to about 22,000 during the wars with some disgruntled Freepers. We are back up to 30,000+ now.
You AINT seen 'nuttin' yet
My history getting to the Free Republic.
As a young man (read kid) In professional school in Chicago, I read five newspapers a day. I was very disappointed when I set up private practice in the Wichita, Kansas area to only have two newspapers to read, which quickly disintegrated to only one. It sure as hell wasn't a conservative one. We called it the Wichita Prairie Pravda.
When the Monica scandal broke, because of the media reference to Drudge, I found him. Prior to that I pulled up on the web, the daily newspapers from Boston. New York,Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, LA, Little Rock, etc., hunting for conservative commentary on our (pardon the expression) Jackass President, William Jefferson Speedzipper. THEN I FOUND the FREE REPUBLIC, where just the articles I wanted to read were all lined up. EUREKA!!!
The Future.
Because of: The Election; The Linda Tripp, South Carolina Free Republic event and subsequent major news mentions; the yet to break amount of "crap" that is going to run down hill on this administration, as they lose power, from insiders spilling the beans, as their conscience takes over, and their fear of prosecution becomes eminent, we are going to get more and more media mentions from the Wall Street Journal, the Baltimore Sun, The Pittsburgh Post Gazzette, the Des Moines Register, etc ., etc., etc. I think we are going to grow this year to 100,000 registered posters, and 1,000,000 lurkers. Where else is anyone going to get the truth?
NO ONE IS GETTING RICH FROM FR CONTRIBUTIONS.
JIMROB couldn't even pay his mortgage this spring and keep FR running.
Sorry Jim. I just had to tell them. MY GOAL FROM THIS EFFORT, THIS MONTH is $40,000 and a thousand new contributors.

When I set the goal at $40,000, Bob J called me and infered that I'd lost my marbles. : ) He did not think it was possible. By cracky, the Freepers showed him "how the cow ate the cabbage." : ) : )

Thank you Maryland.
Although I had been registered about a year I don't believe it was until around the 2000 election debacle that I really started to get involved at FR.
All of the information and everything that was going on during that hard time is what prompted me to get involved in the December 2000 FReepathon. I'm so proud of how my html skills have improved since then, although I still have FAR to go.
(FReeper Max McGArrity is the one that led me to this site. When I first started using the net in 1998 Max was one of the first people I ever "met.")
