A business idea: Build a small portable EMP generator that will 'fry' the small metal leads on these chips. (It would make them inoperable) I don't know anything about the effect it would have on the body.

"But the company was hesitant to market them for people because of ethical questions. The devastation of Sept. 11 solidified the company's resolve to market the human chip and brought about a new sensibility about the possible interest."
Translation:
Well they were hesitant that ethical concerns would depress their stock price if they tried to market this device for human implant. But once the lure of exploiting fear to sell these in the aftermath of tradgedy unfolded, the ugly side of greed was just to much to resist.
Do I know how to translate management speak or what ?

GREAT idea! The government can track our every move! I love it! NO MORE TERRORISTS! I can get rid of all my guns because I'll be safe and secure with the government protecting me at all times.

No such thing but but it will be "sold" to the sheep as "protection". As for me I'll pass and take my chances.

Applied Digital has consulted theologians and appeared on the religious television program the ``700 Club'' to assure viewers the chip didn't fit the biblical description of the mark because it is under the skin and hidden from view. Just because it can't be seen now doesn't mean that won't change later.
Will people remember exactly where the little grain of rice is implanted ?
They'll ask for the the area to be marked clearly so people know where to find it, and scanners can find it easier.
The little mark will be similar to the numbers 666.

``The line in the sand that we draw is that the use of the VeriChip would always be voluntarily,'' said Keith Bolton, chief technology officer and a vice president at Applied Digital. ``We would never provide it to a company that intended to coerce people to use it.''Mr. Bolton, can I just ask you as to who the hell you think you are? You cannot make no such promises or guarantees, they carry no weight before any part of our govt that would make it mandatory, or help me in a legal system where it would be against the law not to wear it. I'd have better luck with a note from my mommy. You are making statements that you do not have the power to enforce.

For a better description of the devices, see
http://www.electronicidinc.com/eidback.html I don't understand how they are good devices for identifying people. All you have to do in order to impersonate someone is kill them, locate their chip, remove it, and inject it into yourself. It doesn't look like there is any mechanism to self-destruct the device if it senses that it is being removed from the "original owner". It is also easy to locate, since it always responds to the scanner.

But privacy advocates warn the chip could lead to encroachments on civil liberties.
The only appropriate response to this is "No-duh!"

No one's putting one of those things in me. I checked (just being curious) at "OpenSecrets.org and found out this company donated 100,000 to the DNC in November of 2000. Just thought that was interesting.

Your opinion? I saw a couple of these guys on TV (O'Reilly, I think) not too long ago. According to them, these chips are already being marketed in Europe.
I seriously doubt that these are that "mark", but they are certainly a forerunner.
My guess is that these will have limited use for a while--I doubt they can hold enough information yet; and they certainly aren't secure....
As for selling them to companies, we have a very mobile workforce. The expense of having them implanted/removed (and the risk of possible lawsuits from infections, etc.) may make them cost prohibitive. I'm also curious to know how information would be added, deleted, and updated.
Between Christains being on guard for the mark of the beast, companies looking for ways to cut costs, and the greenies worrying about brain cancer from cell phones, I don't think they are going to find a big market in the immediate future.
Just my 2 cents :)

I gave a speech in College about smartcards and implants leading to this eventuality and the majority of the audience thought I was from the moon. That was in 1991. I spend 15 minutes on the absolute wonderous miracles that would come of this and then the last 5 minutes on a hypothetical if then Adolf Hitler became the President.
With a few keystrokes the Jewish population and all of his enemies (webmasters and press) would have been isolated.
I totally disagree with the "NEVER" someone wrote. I've heard that so many times it makes me sick. America has given up tons of its freedoms since 1991 and it'll give up a lot more.
We are only 50-60% of the country and when the media gets behind this they'll make every teenager in America think its gold. Hell -- you might not be able to play XBOX2 or PS3 without one. "DADDY! GET ME A CHIP! GET ME A CHIP!! MY FRIENDS HAVE CHIPS!"

"Sometime in the 23rd century...the survivors of war, overpopulation and pollution are living in a great domed city, sealed away from the forgotten world outside. Here in an ecologically balanced world, mankind lives only for pleasure, freed by the servo-mechanisms which provide everything. There's just one catch. Life must end at thirty unless reborn in the fiery ritual of carousel."
Note that it's on the LEFT hand and recall that "Sanctuary" was in Washington, DC !!

You can remove these things with a pen knife.
Then, you can swap them with a friend.
What fun.

NO WAY, NO HOW! From the battle to repeal the NID over the past couple of years in the Illegal Immigrant law, this issue was raised. It has been determined by these implant folks that the PERFECT place for this implant is the forehead or the hand..which are the areas GOD says are for the MARK OF THE BEAST.
