Would like to see the context of this quote. For example, if it is followed by: "And that is exactly what we have done in Afghanistan--give them the golden opportunity to pursue their national destiny free of interference from scheming neighbors, mad clerics, or terrorists with fat wallets"; this would be excellent. Hope this was the thrust of his message.I just checked out a fuller story, and it looks like you are right. The headline was 'Biased'. (Now there's a surprize). Some longer quotes:
Powell, speaking at a panel on building a coalition for a stable world, said the United States is just beginning its campaign against terrorism and will "make sure we root it out, wherever it exists."
But America will also help countries solve problems that make them hotbeds for terrorism, Powell added. He cited Afghanistan, where he said the United States will continue humanitarian efforts to rebuild the shattered country.

Don't think I buy it, but who knows for sure.
Anything is possible.. But I wonder after being courted for Prez and all the media hype if maybe Powell thinks he's untouchable.
Heck, maybe it is good-cop bad-cop..
I just have to wonder when I see everyone else aligned with Dubya and then.. there's Powell.
Like a fly in the soup.

But they are sure a bunch of sharp cookies there in the administration. It is nice to think that Powell is just playing the left for the idiots they are. The Gulf War strategy was one of total misdirection, you may remember (feinting at the beaches, then sweeping around the Iraqi rear!)
Check out my post a little above, with more quotes from Powell, it appears that the headline was 'a little misleading'. Surprise Surprise.

If France had an insane leader and created a situation where a million frenchmen died, then would enlightened opinion in europe want the cowboy to ride in to the rescue? Of course they would, all they can think of is themselves. When it is some slanty-eyed people being destroyed, then they sing a different tune. Very true. The horror that is N. Korea cannot be understated. Those poor people don't even know that they are more savagely treated than anyone else in the world (including the Sudan, and that is saying something). N. Korea would fold like a bedsheet in the wind if attacked, and its people shown that they really don't have to eat babies. I suspect that communists have their own special wing in hell.

LOL! And they called Ronald Reagan a cowboy for labelling the late USSR "the evil empire." President Bush knows what he's doing, he's not afraid of our enemies threats, and he's making America stand tall again like another President we once knew and whose 91st birthday we'll be celebrating this month. The so-called axis of evil is designed for the dustbin of history and it angers President Bush's critics to be on the wrong side of history. Bwahahaha!!!

We'll defeat terrorism much faster when terrorists and their supporters fear us. Do you really believe that NK or the Chinese fear us? If you do, you are in for big surprise. How will you feel when we have 35,000 thousand dead troops and countless 10's if not 100's of thousands dead SK's. That will be the result of the first cruise missle attack on NK. The only hope for SK's survival will be if we use tactical nukes. They have today, this morning, one Million combat troops amassed on the DMZ. What would you, brave soldier, do to stop that surge? It's a well known fact amongst those that have been there, it can't be stopped. We might be able to recapture the land after the fact, and that's questionable. To all of you who think the only concern here is who's in charge, a dose of reality, we've got 35,000 bullet stoppers stationed in SK and they know that's all they are. When oh when will we go back to tackle the VC? We're invincible right. Morons of republican stripe are still morons. Blackbird.

North Korea is just blowing smoke. They don't want it from us. They know they'll lose.

It's about damn time we had a President with the balls to tell things how it is.

Former secretary o state Madeleine Albrigh also condemned the "axis of evil" speech, calling it "big mistake".Oh, now THERE'S a surprise!
She said many in the international community believed the US h "lost its mind" because of the way Mr Bush handled foreign policy.
<sarcasm> I'm sure they miss the steady hand of Bill "Let's see, what should our policy be this week?" Clinton.</sarcasm>
