so are you calling for holy war, ignorant one?

Amazing, simply amazing. And it even bothers to call someone else "ignorant".

sigh.... we have to get these guys right? Or perhaps you think we should just let them continue their kidnapping careers. How many Americans do they have to kill before its ok to go after them. My only point is since we want to get these guys anway, why not try to get them before they kill Pearl? You may not like Pearl, but he is a human being with a family that loves him, and will miss him terribly if he is killed.

So are the soldiers who would be unnecessarily diverted from their military mission to rescue every Reporter who will, as Pearl did, refuse to listen to State Dept warnings, Pakistani warnings, and refused to even take 2 Paki guards with him.

I am sorry but rescuing people who had ample warning that they ignored is not the job of a soldier. It subjects the soldier to further personel endangerment and their primary job does that enough without them expected to be rescuer of those who refuse to exercise common sense and proper self-restraint when warned repeatedly.

Since you mentioned his wife... I was amazed at her demeanor and attitude in tv interviews

When she made the comment that she hadn't slept in six days, I thought that she was lying. Out loud I said, "You should have said that you haven't slept well, because you sure look rested to me." I hope that I am wrong; I would rather be wrong than right in this situation.

You are missing the point. Regardless of Pearls negligance we need to kill these bastards. Why not do it now instead of after they have killed Pearl?

I think you should go back to the beginning of the thread and read my posts before you throw out an accusation

I have read all of your posts and I think I understand your point of view. I just think it is wrong. If Pearl were a Brit or a French man I could understand, but he is American, and we take care of our own. Even the Chinese take care of Chinese that are abused in other countries. Are we to abandon one of our own just because he showed poor judgement? Regardless of what you think of Pearl personally, it is the adventuress and independent spirit of Americans like him that have helped make America great.

Hiding your head in the sand will only make the terrorists bolder. They must know that America will stike back if they attack one of our own or Americans will not be safe anywhere, even in America.

I don't dislike Pearl.
All reporters that travel with the military are briefed beforehand that they go at their risk, the soldiers don't have time to watch out for reporters who want to cover a story.
Pearl knows as all Americans that the US does not negoiate with terrorist.
Pearl wasn't even with the military, he set out on his own, ignoring all warnings.
We will wipe out these slime, but it is better to do it on our terms, not in a hostage situation.

I believe it is you who are missing the point :) We are working on killing the bastards and the military can't be sidetracked from that mission having to save wayward Americans who wander into the bastards hands after they've been repeatedly warned not to. That is unnecessarily endangering the military, whose lives are already at risk enough.

That being said, I hope Mr. Pearl either is rescued or released -- and a wiser man for it. God be with him.

Americans are expected to exercise due care and diligence and unfortunately for him, Mr. Pearl chose not to do either. After repeated warnings and even an offer of bodyguards, Mr. Pearl chose to walk right into the enemy's hands. I am still shaking my head over his lack of common sense and survival instinct - what was the man thinking?

There comes a point when the rest are not responsible to put their lives on the lines because one person throws all caution to the wind and does something that is utterly stupid. No in fact we do not owe him the deaths of servicemembers in a rescue attempt. That he is not mindful of his own life is not a reason for us not to be mindful of the lives of our soldiers, not to mention a diversion from their mission.

No the reason I didn't believe they would do it is that their bargaining power and publicity would be gone if he were dead. And then what would they do other than run and hide. I never said a thing about religion or anything like that. My you are testy ,,,it seems to me every thread on FR turns into some kind of sniping lately.

Just because some signs a disclaimer, it doesn't mean abandoning them is the right thing to do....especially not if the threat was intended to 'dare' and intimidate the United States of America. All for one and one for all, that's what I say. United we stand, divided we fall!

Exactly. They did this to spit in the face of the whole United States. They see this as a challenge to us and if we're smart we'll show them who they should not mess with.

I submit that every Muslim in this nation is suspect,

I hate Islam as a religion/political ideology but I don't think Black Muslims are suspect and people from Turkey aren't. I also think most Iranians aren't. As for the others ---I'm for deporting now.

I guess you have never done anything stupid in your life... how perfect of you. But you are still not getting it. What is our soldiers mission but to protect american lives. If we allow the terrorists to kill Pearl without retribution it puts additional american lives at risk, because the same people who killed Pearl will kill other Americans. This is what they live for, don't you get it? If we don't kill them they will never leave us alone.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this one,, I suspect a generation gap here. I am 24 and perfectly willing to fight for the freedom to live free of fear. You I expect are willing to trade a certain amount of freedom for safety. Just remember your children and grandchildren will have to live with the decisions we make now. Don't trade their future for illusory safty.

I don't like the beliefs of the Black Muslims either but I don't think most are a part of this terrorism going on, most are long-time Americans too and can't be deported anyhow. Actually the Arabs are pretty racist and don't accept them as Muslims, but they could try to use them if they thought it would work.
