RonDog, this has been, and continues to be, an impressive demonstration of the remarkable depth of research that can be conducted using only the internet and email. And, it's exciting!! Great job!

True or not true - the message is quite clear. The constitution never envisaged the magnitude of todays federal government. Congressional liberties are killing this country.

Crockett was quite obviously a tall tale teller and a braggart, as was very common on the frontier and not really taken seriously by anyone.
That he died fighting for a cause he had no obligation to get involved with indicates that he was willing to put his money where his mouth was when necessary.

He was an enlisted man in the war of 1812 and left before his term of enlistment expired.wikipedia: "Crockett was elected lieutenant colonel of the Fifty-seventh Regiment of Tennessee Militia on March 27, 1818."

March 27, 1818. The war of 1812 had ended by then.

True enough. But the state militia and its massive production of officers, particularly colonels for some reason, went on forever.

My Dad was made an honorary colonel by the Governor of Kentucky. He had a distinguished war record though.
