This is getting tiring. High school is rough on ALL of those who are different. We need to emphasize to the kids that you don't make fun of others who are different. But I think that it is kind of something that kids need to learn and work through. I taught 14 and 15 year old girls in church, and they would pick on one girl for awhile, then turn their sights on another girl. I called the ringleaders in and told them that they would be the target one day, and couldn't they please not join in on the teasing? Didn't work, and sure enough, they all were left out at one point.
I guess I get tired of the gay and lesbian crowd always crying that everyone is so mean to them. Well, talk to the short and tall people, thin and fat people, geeky and drama people. Most did not feel accepted. I think we are all feeling our way through adolescence, it is a very confusing time, trying to grow up through the rampaging hormones and figure out exactly how we're supposed to feel and act. Sorry about the rant.
Besides, their sign looks vaguely very sexual...

The typical high school student hears anti-gay slurs 25 times a day. I dare them to prove this. They can't.
To: anniegetyourgun
That's what I was going to say. They come up with these fake facts and want laws passed to defend them. It's crazy.
Also, I have a problem with the term "gay student". No one pre age-of-consent should be proclaiming they are gay. Especially since the activists tell them they cannot change their mind.
To: anniegetyourgun
Proof? They don't need to present truth, the mere fact that they said it happens, proves it happens...

Yes, I've often wondered how they know that unless they've been engaging in fornication. After all, the doctor doesn't proclaim (in the delivery room) - "congratulations, Mrs. Smith, you have a bouncing baby homosexual."
To: anniegetyourgun
LOL, exactly
To: Utah Girl
Frankly, this is hardly surprising. This is EXACTLY what the government indoctrination centers - er - public schools were designed to do.
When educrats talk about "socialization" they mean that a student's free will is to be broken in favor of a state imposed agenda, including (and often emphasizing) the elimination of any morally based social judgement. "Geeks" aren't cool - they're often conservative - so they don't get protected status. Homosexuals, however, ARE cool - so they are to be protected at any cost.
It's really a shame to see such blatant hatred as this attempt to censor free will and thought. It would be more of a shame to allow hatred such as this type of censorship to stand unchallenged.

And do they honestly think that passing a law is going to magically get rid of the alleged slurs? I remember a phrase "You can't legislate morality." You cannot pass laws telling people to be nice to others. Just doesn't work that way.

I get disparaged every time I watch the network news. I'm told that I'm evil because I'm white, conservative, believe in God, <insert your own trait here>. I'm not a homophobe, but you makes yer bed, so you gots to sleep in it.
My ex-girlfriend has a gay son who is a great guy. So is his "partner". They're pretty thick-skinned about remarks that they receive, but maybe they're an exception. This is analogous to being a DemonKrat at a FReeper rally, and not understanding why nobody will be nice to you. Unthinkable.
To: RAT Patrol
Great statement! And I think that is the biggest tragedy of all. The gay activists prey on these kids, taking advantage of the fact that they are young, going through hormonal changes, and are naturally confused. Or making kids think that the feelings they have for their best friends are sexual, and therefore they are gay. There is a lot of deception going on in the recruitment of teenagers to the gay community, and I firmly believe these people will pay for their deeds in the afterlife.

"You can't legislate civility"
"You can't legislate tolerance"

My sister-in-law has a brother who is gay. He has been with his life partner for almost 20 years now. When my brother married her, her brother and his partner were so helpful and always had great ideas for the reception. I actually liked them the best out of all her brothers and sisters. I still don't condone their lifestyle at all. When I travel to San Francisco on business, they always take me out to dinner, and sightseeing, and if the weather is OK, out on their sailboat.
To: Utah Girl
Oh, don't misunderstand me, I don't condone the lifestyle, either. And I certainly would disapprove of it being taught in schools as an "alternative lifestyle". Putting aside any arguments about it being a choice rather than a hard-wired condition, I still think you should judge people on an individual basis rather than painting them all with a broad brush.
The only group I do that with is DemonKrats...to a person, self-professed 'Rats are either ignorant or liars...take your pick.
The gay people I've known from living in Atlanta, Chicago, Texas, and Cincinnati, have all been conscience in their work and obligations. That's admirable, and certainly more than I can say for 100% of the heterosexuals I know and have known.
To: Utah Girl
It's pretty sad that the climate in our schools has now become one of accepting and condoning this harmful, dangerous and often deadly perversion instead of one where kids are protected from the perverts who practice and preach this filth to them in an attempt to lure them into engaging in this sickening "lifestyle". Notice how the natural adolescent reaction to this perversion of human sexuality {the occasional taunt or jeer} is now being called criminal behaviour. Pretty soon they'll be calling for HHS to take kids away from parents who tell them that perversion is wrong.

Public Schools, with their anti-Christian indoctrination, are doomed. If you have to send your children to one of them, because you have no alternative, you have my sympathy. Imagine, trash like these homos, "teaching" this garbage to young kids in school; this is totally ridiculous.....

Yuk, I just read the first couple of paragraphs. They have armed guards there to keep away the parents? If one of my children was taken to that conference, I would be so suing everyone involved.
To: Utah Girl
Yaknow...it would be much better for the health of teens if they penalized coming OUT in high school. Yeah, penalized it, instead of celebrating it. Pretend it's like bringing a gun to school.....which, ironically, if you think about it, you could make some correlations to.....It's not exactly GOOD for your HEALTH to be Homosexual from everything I understand and these are KIDS for God's sake, not ADULTS.
To: goodnesswins
The thing that makes me sick is that they don't get the facts to these kids. Gay men die at an average age of 43, not only from AIDS, but from other sexually transmitted diseases. And they teach the kids that if they use condoms, everything will be OK. Well, that is simply not true. Many STD's can be spread, even if the participants are using condoms. Yuk, this subject is making me queasy.
To: Utah Girl
Eighty percent of gay and lesbian students report they've been verbally abused, 44 percent have had things thrown at them and 30 percent have reported being chased or followed, presumably because of their sexual orientation. *YAWN!* As compared with 99% of other high school students who are verbally abused at school, etc. We taunted each other with epithets like "fag" and so forth in high school, had spitballs (and worse) thrown at us, chased each other, and sometimes caught and whaled on each other. BFD. It's part of being in high school, but if the teachers and principal have good command of discipline (and these days they don't seem to, except when they're expelling students for having aspirins and key chains), it doesn't happen too much. But it's gonna happen to ya, "gay" or "straight."
This "hate crime" crap isn't about "protecting" the "sensitive" little dears---it's about privileging them---just like their overprotective mommas did. And I fear, it'll eventually lead (just as it's designed to) to separate taxpayer-funded "gay" schools, with "gay" teachers for their "role models."
Imagine how much "learning" will go on if that takes place......
