what is it (if not your altruistic spirit) which bids you come dispel the Magic Bean beliefs in which the Magic Bean believers are imprisoned?

The desire to deal with people who deal solely with reality. A selfish desire, that.

What is the point of knowledge for your own sake?

It is my self-chosen purpose.

Can't say. I don't see much point, really, in conjecturing about either my pre- or my post-existence. Who can say for certain?

I'm pretty sure any who speak authoritatively on such subjects run the risk of deceiving themselves and others.

I suspect that, if I concentrate on the here and now -- in light of my hopes in those regards -- I may be so blessed as to have such mysteries made clear to me someday.

If I were drunk, I couldn't even type straight. Just a little bit tipsy?

At best.

Beer is my friend, but so is Monty Python. Even John Cleese gets old after awhile (everything in moderation). Jesus is my friend. I'd never come on and brag about beer instead of Him. Jesus's wine is all I need.

And that wine is (among many other blessings).... wine.

Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

Which brings us back to the question: Absent the EFFICACIOUS CAUSATION (energeo) of the Father, Does any Natural Man acting out of his native Adamic Wants ever perform any God-pleasing action whatsoever -- including reaching out to the Son, which pleases the Father

God has made man capable of seeking him (Acts 17:27) and some men do Cornilus the centurian, a just man(Acts.10:22), who was an unbeliever (Acts 11:14) did so. God knows how to reach those who would believe if given the light (2Cor.4:6).

Nuff said!

Even so, come Lord Jesus

It is my self-chosen purpose.

Like your coming into being, no doubt.

I'm going to let you slide on the selfishness that is wanting to make others in your own image ... if only because you so selflessly deprive yourself of that society to work the vineyards such as this one.

For an atheist who doesn't believe in reincarnation, you'd think life would be far too short for what seem such loser bets as taking on the Magic Bean set.

You're a saint of a Selfish, Selfmade Man ... no doubt about it.

O ye of little faith. (To quote a great philospher)

You're a saint of a Selfish, Selfmade Man ... no doubt about it.

Aw, you're going to make me blush. Thank you.

You oppose the words of God

Phht. You know not of which you speak. I know fewer Godlier.

You have nothing new to offer these people.

Speak for yourself, Pharisee.

You oppose the words of God and have been drinking. I'm not really surprised. Go be a drunk preacher somewhere else. You have nothing new to offer these people.

Me, I'm trying to offer a confessed Atheist ("Doctor Doom") the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Exactly what are you doing, again?

Ahh, yes... Denying the Biblical Doctrine of God's Absolute Sovereignty. That's what you are doing.

Carry on.

Close, but not quite. Look at the issue of the thread. For whom did Christ die?

See my #73.

...but didn't He have hope in his heart that others would choose Him?

Can God be surprised?

No.

Even so, come Lord Jesus

Yes, come Lord Jesus. It's a big world out there, and Lord Jesus has helped to explain some stuff. The prob is that so many Followers of Lord Jesus do not see the Beam in their Eye.

The sword and war of Jesus was love. Love. Love. Love. Jesus was love. Jesus was not disputation without love. He was disputation, but with love.

Jesus, like every other one of us, was one of us. He came to say he was one of us. His message was that he was one of us. He understood the reluctance of folks who set themselves apart, as if they were not one of us.

What he said was not so complicated, as beautifully as he said it, notwithstanding.

Jesus said to love one another. That seems like the right thing to do.

Rather than being so hung up on what John Calvin wrote and what Calvinists think he meant, it is much better to go straight to the Bible and simply read the clear meaning of the words.

Indeed. I still haven't gotten anyone to tell me how the clear meaning of the words in Ephesians 1:4-5 can be anything but predestination.

Do you really think "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage," opposes the word of God?

I get the feeling that anything outside of faith_j's personal puritan prejudices is considered by him to be against the word of God.
