>Near the White Castle?

I moved out of McKinley Park when I was about nineteen, so the details have gone all fuzzy...

The last I remember, there was a White Castle around Archer and Ashland...

When we wanted sliders, we would go to the one on Archer and Kedzie in Brighton Park. (My brother was so in love with the stuff that when he moved to Seattle, every few months he would have my parents buy him sacks and FedEx them out to him. He eventually kicked the habit, but every time he flies back to Chicago he still complains that the food in Seattle is _nothing_ compared to Chicago...)

65 transistor watts are - I assume that's what yours has - is roughly the equivalent of around 15 to 20 class A tube watts.

I didn't realize there was such a difference in output between tube and transistor amps. Thanks for the recommendations.

It'll barely get the job done with a band (as long as the drummer isn't too obnoxious).

Why is it the goal of so many drummers to play as loud as they can? Must be part of the psyche required to be a drummer.

A little off topic here but I assume you got your screenname from a Robert Heinlein story. His nephew(70+) lives across the street from me.

You might be interested in a CD by the Pine Valley Cosmonauts. They perform faithful covers of Bob Wills/western swing. It's very good.

I think it was the one on Kedzie where my dad would stop AFTER Thanksgiving dinner at my Grandmother's. Somehow, we never tired of those holes with meat around them. Thanks for the memories.

The Beach Boys cancelled out of a planned Monterey Pop Festival appearance (which some people believe could have taken their music to the next stage rather than being perceived as being "out of touch"); reportedly, Monterey was where the Who truly found an American audience.

Isn't Monterey also considered to be the festival where Otis Redding became a star, and Janis Joplin first got noticed?

You forgot the most important fact about the Standells -- they played as the Beatle-esque band on The Munsters!

That's interesting about Bing. I didn't know he recorded "Hey Jude". Wouldn't mind hearing that to see what it sounds like.

He also performed a Christmas carol with David Bowie just before he died.

Hey Bing was cool. I always liked that movie "The Bells of St. Mary's".

There's a Guitar Center in Seattle, they do give great discounts. I didn't realize until recently that they are a publicly traded company. Lots of good stuff.

I liked "White Christmas" too, and the "On the Road to ***" movies with Bob Hope.

Believe it or not, I've never seen White Christmas. But I did hear the song is still the #1 selling single of all time. So maybe Guillam is on to something, if you look at it from that perspective.

"L.A. Woman" and "Riders on the Storm" do it for me every time. The best Doors is better than the best Beatles. For me at least.

I always crank up the radio when "L.A. Woman" is played.

Wow!

I grew up with the movie. It's kind of a post WWII classic. Didn't know it had such success as a single, I've only heard it on albums. BTW who is Guillam?

Glad to see you here Dennis, but the Beatles had much more talent and impact than the Doors.

Guillam is a poster on the previous page who told me the 30's had the best music, everything was downhill from there.

Here's the story of White Christmas. You can hear it if you got real player. Great tune BTW.

Short answer is, yes the Beatles have had more impact. This much is true. I just like the best of the Doors better. A personal preference you could say.

I always liked the Stones better than the Beatles.

you know a lot about music, don't you? (sign of a misspent youth - while everyone else was going to the wharton school of finance ... . ugh.)

I kind of do, particularly being that I have been a music critic at various junctures in my own career.
