Per George Wills Column, The F-16 Solution

Today on Ivry's (Israels ambassador to US, then Israel's air force commander)embassy office wall is a large black-and-white photograph taken by satellite 10 years after the raid, at the time of the Gulf War. It shows the wreckage of the reactor complex, which is still surrounded by a high, thick wall that was supposed to protect it. Trees are growing where the reactor dome had been.

The picture has this handwritten inscription. "For Gen. David Ivry, with thanks and appreciation for the outstanding job he did on the Iraqi nuclear program in 1981 -- which made our job much easier in Desert Storm." The author of the inscription signed it: "Dick Cheney, Sec. of Defense 1989-93."

If it didn't save the world, at least it saved American lives, at least in the opinion of Cheney, who was in a position to know.

The knee-jerk reaction of calling those that disagree with the pro-Israel group "anti-semites" seems to have been reduced a bit.

Its for the best... I believe that a lot of those on the fence regarding some of the issues affecting Israel have been turned off by all the slandereous and excessive "anti-semite" charges in the past. A lot of enemies were made that didn't have to be enemies.

That same thought was just recently advanced by G. Will. More precisely, he stated that without that raid by the Israelis there would be no Desert Storm.
