I guess it depends on where you live but where I live, but I'm used to people who have lived in the US for generations --even before it was the US referring to themselves as "Hispanic" and the "Mexicans" are the immigrants who come from Mexico. Here they don't seem that culturally alike, I can't think of any "Hispanic" family that lives like that but it's common for the "Mexicans" to crowd 3 to 4 or more families into one home (and I've seen some horrendous examples where they have kids sleeping on floors). The Hispanics might have several generations under the same roof but not different families like the immigrants commonly do here.

The Virginia Senate last year passed a bill permitting Fairfax County, which was seeing an influx of Hispanic families, to ban sleeping in any room except bedrooms. The bill was subsequently withdrawn amid charges that it was anti-immigrant.

"Anti-immigrant"? Sounds anti-American. Why on earth would/should the government be concerned with which room someone sleeps in? If they are going to make a law about maximum occupancy, that is one thing; but when they start controlling one thing that goes on in the bedroom...

LOL, the only time Hughie-baby sees latinos like this is when they are mowing his lawn.

Yeah, but it's been a while since I tagged a bunch of border jumper threads with Hugh's name in size 5 bold.

Tonight's been a good night.

, but does anyone know if an illegal immigrant can buy a home? If so wouldn't the INS deport them?

Yes, they can buy property, and no, the INS isn't even set up to deport criminals, much less property owning illegals. Send your thanks to Spencer Abraham, darling of the open borders set in the GOP, for having done much to aggravate this situation while he was in the Senate. Then thank Dubya for giving this traitor a slot in his Cabinet.

Right now the so-called INS can't find about 300,000 people with expired visas, so the answer to your question is sadly...no.

A good friend of mine from my high school days fits that description. I never thought about the fact his family was Mexican. They were American as far as I was concerned.

This is a disgraceful state of affairs. Even if the INS knew where all these people were, the law enforcement in several states have said they won't cooperate in helping to round them up. So much for that spirit of unity.

And I do enjoy your tagging, Sabertooth. I suggest we ought to tag Hughie's house, so he can better enjoy the fruits of diversity. El Baby Gangster Rulz is one of my all-time fave tags, and it would look swell in three foot high letters down in Irvine.

(Just kidding Hugh, don't wet your pants)

Last year, Lee Ann McLaughlin, a loan officer who serves Elgin, approved more than 200 loans to low-income minorities, up from 22 five years earlier. Three-quarters were to Hispanics pooling resources to buy homes, say Ms. McLaughlin. She says her foreclosure rate hasn't changed, remaining "well below" 1%.

Ms. McLaughlin recently approved a loan for a two-bedroom condominium that will house eight people. She discounts complaints by some whites in Elgin that the eagerness of mortgage lenders and real-estate agents to land Hispanic clients is fostering overcrowding.

"The more affluent we become, we tend to forget where we came from," she says, "I grew up in a four-bedroom farmhouse in Ohio with my grandparents, my mother, two uncles, a brother and a sister."

Oh, aren't we tolerant? What a crock! People remember very well where they came from. They go to the suburbs to get away from overcrowding and noise, which the realtor knows all too well. And did her family blast their stereos? And how close did the nearest neighbors live? It's racial hogwash to make this a white vs. Hispanic thing. Quite a few Hispanics don't like radios blasting all the time, either, though you don't hear about them. A Dominican friend's Puerto Rican husband had to go to bed very early for work. The building they lived in was full of -- as my friend described it -- very loud Dominicans. It drove the husband crazy, and he often called the police about music blasting at night.

The writer also neglected to mention that as a racist, Costa Rican immigrant bragged to me a couple of years ago, federal mortgage loan programs (Fannie Mae?) give affirmative action preferences to immigrants over native Americans.

In a way it shouldn't matter to the government that 4-5 families are living in homes zoned for one family ---but most of these are people here illegally and presenting false documents to work and apply for welfare benefits. The government does have a right to limit how many families can live in one housing project unit. We're taxed plenty to pay for an INS and border control that don't do much at all.

When we were selling out first house, we got an offer from an (Asian) Indian family. Our agent explained that everyone in the family worked at fast-food places. Their combined income was enough to qualify for the loan, and somehow they had saved $20,000 for a down payment. Our neighbors begged us not to sell to them. Their offer was not quite what we wanted, so we turned it down.

However, I admired the moxy of those people. They came to this country with a dream - to own a house in America. They worked at menial jobs for who knows how long and saved for a down payment. They knew once they owned a home they would be building equity instead of tossing away money for rent. They knew their children's life will be better when they moved into a nice neighborhood. Why put up more hurdles for these people, as long as they are here legally, pay the mortgage, and maintain their property?

Hey, Hugh Hewitt is from Ohio too.

Here's a thought... Let's bump the population of Ohio by 10% to 20% colonistas, and then send Ohioans back to remember (and miss) where they came from.

Pie, we've been fighitng this in California for years. Even passed Prop 187 in the desperate attempt to force our goverment to do something about it- but Gray Davis and Judge What's-her-leftist-name conspired to spike the law before it could be reviewed by our State Supreme Court (so much for self-rule). And worse, we have "conservative" frauds like Hugh Hewitt, Ron Unz, and Bennett and Kemp fighting us and supporting the border jumpers.

It's time to admit we are witnessing something like the fall of Rome. You might as well sit back and watch the show. Have a cerveza and some guacamole.

If I have a cerveza and guacamole I'll be too drunk and fat to run, so I'll stick with mineral water and a stick of celery.

As long as they were here legally it might be okay if they had many families in one home. It's a good way of getting out of property taxes too, you can have 15-20 kids in one home whose owner pays the same amount of taxes that the other people do with 1 or 2 kids.

Aren't we dedicated! Clothes fitting a bit snug after the holidays, lol?

All you need to do is add rice cakes and tofu, and you'll fit right in out here in the New Tertia Mundi of California.
