Not truths, but made up "facts." The threat to our security during the gulf war was the free flow of oil at market prices. If Saddam had taken over Saudi Arabia, we would be in a Carter type recession with high inflation due to high oil prices. I hate to respond to this LRC drivel. It is better to just ignore it.

A few more unpleasant truths, freepers. Here's an unpleasant truth for Mr. Pierce: typing is not writing.

Government most certainly did not make America great. We are, or were, great because of what we as Americans did, what we built and produced, and what we believed. We as a people were fairly devout and honored God, family and country. We worked hard and earned money that we kept for our own families. When the government clinched its fist against the Southern states there was a fringe benefit the income tax. American no longer had control over their own finances. World War I, that least necessary of wars, sealed the tax in gold and FDR brought us the glory of income tax withholding. Nixon took us off the gold standard without so much as a "by your leave." Third Grade essay on "How I Misspent My Summer Evacuation."

Here's an unpleasant truth for Mr. Pierce: typing is not writing. Here's another brain-o: I never read your articles, only the funny comments made by freepers.

Lew Rockwell-type motto:
"I doubt...therefore I might be."
Why don't they save all that stuff for their own site and stop wasting bandwidth here. I've read better commentary from the cartoon inserts that used to come with "Fleer's Double-Bubble Gum".
To: fporretto
I'd thought I'd find some commonality of values here, including the traditional conservative emphasis on politeness, but much of what I see suggests that, as on the Left, a lot of folks on the Right aren't really interested in discussing anything with anyone. Either agree with them, or get out. This is also why I joined, and I've noticed this same trend, esp. after 9-11. I don't always agree with others, but I like hearing their opinions. I don't like being called stupid or foolish just because I don't agree with something. Name calling and rudeness simply aren't necessary or called for, not toward article authors, nor posters.

Freerepublic needs stories and essays, and the authors like feedback. Sounds even.

Mr. Pierce makes good points. But they're too uncomfortable for those who've declared "My Party, Right or Wrong!"

A few more unpleasant truths, freepers. A few more unpleasant opinions and conjectures and speculations.
"Truth" requires a bit more proof than this person presents.

Here you go again ignoring what I said. Saddam was posting his troops to invade Saudi Arabia. That is nonsense only because you guys at LRC have to either invent or ignore facts.

Why don't you let JimRob decide if this is a waste of bandwidth? I've been around here a fairly long time and I don't think he needs you to speak for him.

Michael Pierce is not for open borders. Most paleolibertarians of the LewRockwell.com ilk are not. They realize that the immigration patterns that have prevailed since 1965 have had the effect of growing government, and they realize the "metamarket" necessary for capitalism.
To: Ada Coddington
I am a regular reader of LewRockwell.com, although I often disagree with its writers. I don't entirely agree with Mr. Pierce's article (for example, I think regime change was necessary in Afghanistan and I am generally pro-Israel), but some of the points he makes are undeniable. Freepers need to remain true to their principles, not to a specific political party. And I say this as a Republican who supports President Bush. Not all of the things being done in the name of fighting terrorism are in our best interest, and we may come to regret them during the next liberal administration.

One day, I would like to see someone post a simple primer about just what "Paleo-Libertarinism" is.
My two biggest problems with "Libertarianism" have always been it's stands on abortion and open-borders.

It is the parents that drugged their kids.
I have kids. There is NO WAY I'm going to drug them.

I accuse Southern American conservatives of tolerating disrespect for your ancestors and your heritage, collaboration with a wicked and heathen occupier and abandoning your God given task of being the conscience of this Republic. That says it all. I know where this guy is coming from. If it is Christian and white it is good, if it isn't, it's bad. That is his Manichean divide.

"Name calling and rudeness simply aren't necessary or called for, not toward article authors, nor posters" I guess they are necessary and called for when some can't argue with the content.
