Den, do you have an address that my kids could send notes / cards to Kathy through?
Bell's palsy is a condition, usually only temporary, in which the muscles on one side of the face become paralyzed because of a disorder of the nerve that controls them. There are two facial nerves, one on each side, that run from the brain through a small hole in the skull, just behind the ear. Bell's palsy occurs when one of those nerves becomes swollen and is pinched near the point where it leaves the skull. It is not yet known what causes the swellings or why only one of the two facial nerves is usually affected.
Reading further down it says, A middle ear infection sometimes seems to bring it on. Though it is disfiguring, Bell's palsy is not a dangerous condition. The main physical risk is of irritation of or injury to the eye. The eye does not close properly, so it is exposed to dust, and it may become abnormally dry. The eye may also develop ulcers if it is left unprotected.
Skipping to the "what should be done" section : You may begin to recover within two or three weeks, and if this occurs your recovery will probably be complete....until you have fully recovered, you may need to wear a protective eye patch and apply moisturizing drops to the affected eye at regular intervals. Sometimes a steroid medication is prescribed.
I am puzzled, Den. The vision loss...are they attributing it to the Bell's palsy? It doesn't say both eyes in my book. Why the steriods? For the lesions? Have you bounced this news off your Doctor friend whom stopped in over the weekend?? Either I am not getting a clear picture, or some of this doesn't seem to jive.
Thanks for the update. It is greatly appreciated! Will have the girls send their wishes tomorrow! Blessings and prayers, bro.
Tuesday bump
Rejoice!! Praise the LORD! Denny said that Kathy's vision is returning, as well as her strength. He said that they were told if Kathy continues to improve as she has been, she may be able to go home on Friday. He said that last week at this time Kathy was blind and unable to even get out of bed!! (GOD IS GOOD!)
He and Amber would benefit from our prayers for their continued strength as they are still battling with the negativism around them! Keep the faith, you guys, and walk by faith and not by sight!
Here's for Kathy's return home in full health by week's end!! PRAISE THE LORD! HALLELUJAH! PRAISE AND PRAYER BUMP!!! Keep the prayers ascending!!
Heavenly Father, You have wrought another magnificent miracle! Thank You so much, Father, and please continue to support and comfort this family in every way. Thank You Father!
