In our language the is no word like "hoot". I even checked our official Dutch dictionary, the Van Dale. Our cities are not as large as the ones in the US, I agree on that one. And my country is not as large too. But we have build it ful almost to full capacaty. And we got regular shootings too. A lot of ex-Yugoslavian weapons circulate around here, like AK-47 and even RPG's. A while ago a money-transport was hit by one! Compared to the US it is dismall, but it is more dangerous to us, for we are not allowed to carry any guns for protection. And about the shootings, did you not read the article I translated? 4 times as much chance to get killed in Amsterdam than in Rome is nothing to be proud of. Do you think people get killed by tulips? No it's guns. Believe me, there are some neigborhoods in Amsterdam (Bijmler, Westerpark), Rotterdam, Utrecht, Haarlem (Spijkerkwartier), Heerlen (notorious drugs zone), Venlo (the Maaskade, the Turks own half the city, they use the drugs money to buy real-estate)(BTW, I live 15 miles from it), Roermond (the Veldstraat, the Kemp, Donderberg)(I work in Roermond) you better not go to when it's dark, you're not better off there than in many other mayor cities in the US.

Oh, and living here for all my life is "research" enough for me to say these things. If you don't believe me just come over here, visit Amsterdam South-East (the Bijlmer) or Utrecht (central station, go there on thursday evening) and shout "Surinamers en Marokanen zijn kloothommels en kontebonkers, jullie neuken met je moeders want dat zijn hoeren en jullie pakken kamelen, schapen en geiten in de kont". Wear a bullet-proof vest if you going to do it, and oh, the police won't come and help you, they avoid the Bijmler like hell.

no. the social differences between new york and amsterdam are far greater than those between london and amsterdam.
