...population of hard core liberal government employees [in the DC area]

Your comment is very accurate. Vast numbers of federal bureaucrats in the DC metro area live off of agency budgets, many of which depend on liberal politicans who love to fund them in order to get votes from their constituients. The federal employees want to keep on the gravy train so they vote for the liberal politicians. The cycle continues. Nearly all of the numerous federal employees I've known over the years are in fact hard core liberals.

I hope that every Firefighter, Police Officer, Postal Worker and Military Personnel that attends the Tree Lighting Ceremony is wearing a Santa suit.

Unless those two families are Genovese and Luciano, or something similiar, they are blowing smoke

If the Genovese, Luciano or any other Italian families of Kensington are anything like the Italians of New York, they'll be the ones with the biggest and brightest holiday displays. When we lived in New York City it was a family ritual to drive through Italian neighborhoods to see "Christmas Lights". Every house, for blocks and blocks, lit up...absolutely stunning...a winter wonderland! Christmas in New York is a sight to behold!

On the other hand, Silent Night was written by a couple of Catholics. I doubt it will be sung in Kensington.

DUDE! I'm totally there! You bring the kegs, I got the weed...

I got a better song for ya, though...

Merry Christmas From the Family
by Robert Earl Keen Jr.

Mom got drunk and Dad got drunk
At our Christmas party
We were drinkin' champagne punch
And homemade eggnog
Little sister brought her new boyfriend
He was a Mexican
We didn't know what to think of him
'Til he sang Feliz Navidad
Feliz Navidad

Brother Ken brought his kids with him
The three from his first wife Lynn
And the two identical twins
From his second wife MaryNell
Of course he brought his new wife Kaye
Who talks all about AA
Chain smokin' while the stereo plays
Noel, Noel, The first Noel

Carve the turkey turn the ball game on
Mix Margaritas when the eggnog's gone
Send somebody to the Quik-Pak store
We need some ice and an extention cord
A can of bean dip and some Diet Rite
A box of tampons and some Marlboro Lights
Hallelujah everybody say cheese
Merry Christmas from the family

Fran and Rita drove from Harlingen
I can't remember how I'm kin to them
But when they tried to plug their motorhome in
They blew our christmas lights
Cousin David knew just what went wrong
So we all waited on our front lawn
He threw the breaker and the lights came on
And we sang Silent Night
Oh Silent Night

Carve the turkey turn the ballgame on
Make Bloody Marys cause we all want one
Send somebody to the Stop 'n Go
We need some celery and a can of fake snow
A bag of lemons and some Dite Sprite
A box of tampons and some Salem Lights
Hallelujah everybody say cheese
Merry Christmas from the family

Feliz Navidad.

I worked in DC and lived in Maryland for fifteen year before escaping in 1994. The thing that concerns me is that people outside that environment don't understand how these people affect everyday government thinking and actions.

This stupidity goes into everyday government business. We are being put into a position where we are in an antagonistic relationship with our government. As time passes, the government is taking more and more precautions to protect it's workers from the citizens. We are moving in a dangerous direction.

What a pitiful place, glad I don't live there! Santa always comes to my house and he leaves lots of presents. We also have a nativity scene, guess we'd be big time lawbreakers in Maryland.

I was referring to the “school of music”, which was mentioned in the press release. Many cities around the country have had a long tradition of allowing local church choral groups to sing Christian songs at civic Christmas tree lighting ceremonies. This tradition goes back to at least the 19th Century.

But in recent years, the mayors and city councils of many cities (who seem to be more atheistic nowadays than in the past) have asked the Christian choral groups to not sing any “Christian” songs at the ceremonies, because those city governments are trying to turn a “Christmas tree” into a “Holiday tree”, i.e. a generic secular “winter season” tree, like the Russian-Communist “Father Frost” December festival, after Christmas was outlawed in Russia.

FATHER FROST REPLACES CHRISTMAS IN COMMUNIST RUSSIA

The Levine School of Music is a choral group from the local St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. United Methodists are Protestant Christians. They will probably be required to sing only “snow” and “sleighbell” songs this year. In other words, no music like this......

I don't live too far from Kensington. What I'd like to do, just to stir up a little trouble, is dress up as Santa, and have a couple of my friends dress up as cops. We would then stand on the outskirts of all of the activity, where people pull up to park, and have my friends pretend to beat me with their sticks and handcuff me. Well, it would be fun, anyway.

Gasp! Are you implying that the people's republic of Kensington shares the same values as the "noble experiment" that was called the USSR?

I feel for you. I grew up in Fairfax County and bemoan the change also.

Still, I'd much rather be here than there. Montgomery County and Kensington are national disgraces.

Everyone please, lay off of the Mayor. She is actually on our side! Got after the real evil ones listed below, instead.

These are the Town of Kensington, Maryland, Council Members who voted unanimously to ban Santa:

Chris Bruch
Glenn Cowan
Leanne Pfautz
Barbara Scharman

They are all elected officials and can be contacted via their listings in the phone book and information on other public documents. Since they are PUBLIC officials, they, just like celebrities, are not protected by the same slander, libel and so-called privacy laws that private individuals are.
