Notably, the first commercial patriots were car dealers. While I do not have to patronize any of these gumptious jerks, I can certainly express my outrage. Making a buck off of innocent victims smacks of the very war we are fighting.
You stated the purpose behind the campaign at Circuit City. Doesn't this remind you of ambulance chasing lawyers? Captialism does not include feeding like a shark frenzy. It has personal responsibility. THAT is the difference between libs and conservatives.
Far more significant would be for us, and those we love to do this on our own. The government is bad enough, but now we rely on some retailer?
"There is no free lunch." And I am certainly not going to have Circuit City give me one. Whoa! I think I am short circuiting at the very thought.
This thread may not be the best place to address that difference.
What thread would be best? That is ridiculous! I do not want to go to Circuit City to help my fellow man with something better than making a buck. In case you did not notice, our military does not have that snake oil on their faces! Circuit City indeed!
Please forgive the bad picture. I wanted FallGuy in it with me so we asked the young man at Circut City if he would take our picture as I promised Ligeia. We went to Circut City today and they had a wall to stand against and the camera all set up. We had 39 seconds to say whatever we wanted....I asked the man doing it...." OK, can I say, we hope you kill Osama." He laughed and said no but he wished we could. tee hee I told the man about Free Republic and the Canteen on here too.He was very interested in both. So here ya go, FallGuy and Snow Bunny supporting the troops. And I am sorry it isn't a better picture, I hope we did not break the camera. LOL
What a GREAT picture, Snow Bunny and Fall Guy!!!
Thank you for posting it here!
Thank you RonDog.

Pursuit of Liberty: The Moral Basis of Capitalism

In their strictly selfish pursuit of profit, Circuit City has been driven to perform such acts of civic goodness as providing this wonderful service for the troops. It would be difficult to find a more perfect demonstration of the power of Adam Smith's "Invisible Hand":
"...Each individual strives to become wealthy "intending only his own gain" but to this end he must exchange what he owns or produces with others who sufficiently value what he has to offer; in this way, by division of labour and a free market, public interest is advanced."
I see nothing wrong in donating resources to support our troops, nothing wrong in trying to sell more electronic gadgets, and nothing wrong in doing the two at the same time. In fact, I find both activities highly moral, separately or in concert.
Since Angelique brings up no less authority than God in #69, I'd like to ask her if she can point us to any scripture that forbids combining work and charity.
I can apreciate that "business" has a poor reputation - perhaps even well-deserved - even here on Free Republic.
I believe that in the absence of fraud and government incompetence, our American free enterprise system is inherently the MOST moral form of economic endeavor possible. I WOULD, however, like to see more CHRISTIAN businessmen - whose integrity goes beyond Adam Smith as an exemplar, but strives towards the example set by Jesus Christ.
See, for instance, "BUSINESS ETHICS AND GOD".
It was posted somewhere on FR. Maybe Boris can find it.EXCELLENT!!
I think this is it.
