On the other hand, if they stand by their "principles" and agree to do nothing while innocent children are slain, then they show themselves for the gutless, stupid people they are. Ask them how it would be "moral" to not defend a child!?!?

Yes, how long would they stand by their "peace" ethics. Would they stand by while terrorists on our soil dragged children out of schools and executed them as infidels? If that is okay by their ethics, would they still stand by in "peace" while terrorists invaded their homes and killed their own children? The Taliban have been perfectly willing to use children as shields in Afghanistan, why would anyone think the children in this country would be any more sacred to them, were they to gain that much power.

Where do the peaceniks draw their line in the sand, or is there none? Is wholesale slaughter of their own family okay by their ethics? It is apparently okay if it happens to people in New York, 3,000 miles away from Seattle. I guess no matter what happens to Americans, it's okay with the peaceniks, just troubling finding the right song.

love always overcomes hate

An armed street gang surrounds you and moves in for the kill--will love overcome hate?

Hitler's armies invade Poland--will love overcome hate?

India is given independence in 1949--and Hindus and Moslems begin slaughtering each other. This is a hatred that hasn't cooled for more than fifty years. Will love overcome hate?

Israel vs. Palestine

Iran vs. Iraq

African tribe X vs. African tribe Y

Need I go on?

One can only presume that these liberals either are visiting from another planet--or have been the victims of mass lobotomy.

I've also read -- and this was a while ago -- about a Quaker who enlisted as an unarmed medic. He received the Medal of Honor for rescuing injured Marines from the front lines of one of the island battles against the Japanese; but he never carried a weapon.

I think I read that also. Maybe on the MoH website.

And I thought I was the only conservative folk music lover in the U.S. Welcome comra ...er, I mean friend. My biggest wish is to be playing in front of a typical lefty folk music crowd, and intersperse military melodies in with the other stuff. I'm betting it would drive them wild...I hope. Sing "Where Have All The Flowers Gone" and then segue into` "The Marine Corps Hymn".

And I thought I was the only conservative folk music lover in the U.S. Welcome comrad...er, I mean friend. My fondest wish is to be playing in front of a typical leftist folkie crowd and intersperse military melodies with the regular stuff. Start out with "Where have All the Flowers Gone?" and then segue into "The Marine Corps Hymn".

Love you responce to the idiots (your post number 5). I was once confronted by an animal rights nitwit at the mall, while wearing my leather coat. This girl asked me "How do I feel about the animals that died so I could have that coat?" I told her "Well, I hope they didn't skin them alive" Totally blew her mind!

When I did filk music, back in the early '90s, I had a song called, "The Only Republican Filker." I wasn't, as it turned out, but it was still worth more than a few laughs. I mean to change it up so it could be "The Only Republican Folkie," but never got around to it.

With "The Ballad of Mike Moran" (I think I got the name right) getting a little air time, maybe there will be a surge of Conservative folk. It might be time.

The Kids In The Hall did a comedy sketch one time about a conservative folk group. One song they did was about Joe McCarthy. Needless to say they didn't last long on the lefty college circuit. Hilarious skit but tinged in truth. Nevertheless it would be great to see one succeed.

Those peaceniks, sound like they are stuck in the hippie era, haven't they watched the world go-round, all that love just got us more hate.

Come to think of it, I was briefly on a e-mail list for the late, great Canadian folksinger, Stan Rogers. A few days after I got on, somebody made a comment along the lines of, as long as we're being a bit critical of Stan right now, it should be noted that he could be something of a redneck in his songs.

I made a comment along the lines of, "For some of us, that's part of his appeal." Nobody else posted anything similar. So a few day later, I unsubscribed.

But I figure anyone who wrote songs like "Night Guard," ("This will be the end of it tonight/ 'Cause all the proof he needs is lying steady in his sight."), which appears to be upset with Canadian anti-gun laws, or "The Idiot" ("I like being free and that makes me an idiot, I suppose." "That government dole will rot your soul, back there in your home town.") has more than a little right-of-center blood in him.

The Oysterband is as left-wing as they come, but their "(Work Like You Were Living in the) Early Days if a Better Nation" is a remarkable song for being a political rallying song aligned with no specific political belief.
