(To paraphrase Peetah)...Well, I guess some media types handle town meetings well (Roger) and some don't (Peetah).
To: Hildy
Did you catch the part where Jennings said that we're going to have to recognize Palestine? I did. Did you hear when he added that Bush was talking about that idea?

I watched it on TV and got the impression Jennings was deliberately avoiding Hedgecock. All week Roger kept saying he was going to question Jennings on his citizenship -- but it never came up. Darn!!

Well this is an interesting thread. I'v been invited to the one in Dallas and am certainly using this info to prepare. I've been critical of the war coverage and so guess I'm supposed to show up to get shot down, by Petah. Trying to decide how to treat this. Anyway very interesting but not unexpected stuff.

If you get the chance, ask Petah if he would fight or give his life to save America.

I hear ya. THAT takes a level of courage I find it difficult to understand; sort of like the guy that will crawl under your house and remove rattlesnakes.

Yes I have and its because I wrote a scathing letter to the Dallas Morning news which was published. They are bugging me to make sure I'll be there making sure my name is spelled right and all that, as if they didn't know. Should I tell them that I had a reporter on the ground at the World Trade Center and its pretty hard to hear a grown son cry as he described the hopeless and desperate people who were lost?

I watched the program on TV. On the whole, it was an interesting program. However, some of the questions were not even related to the main subject which was how the media is handling the current news.
Hal Clement (Anchor for Channel 10) was interesting - he said he didn't think people were more or less patriotic because they did or did not wear an American flag. The audience reaction was mixed.
Roger really ran up against it when the attorney for a local San Diego terrorist (who is still in custody), verbally attacked Roger - you know the one, Hildy, the one who's always on TV saying we are abusing his client; his client's innocent, etc.
The guy was really ugly toward Roger, and the crowd was for Roger. Jennings loved it. Roger was awesome! He knows how to defend himself from those bozos. Hildy, you really missed a good exchange.
Kimberly Hunt (Anchor - Channel 10) was pretty good. I liked some of her answers. She said she had American flags everywhere (on her vehicle; at home); but didn't see a problem with her not being able to wear a flag on the air.
Jennings was stunned by some of the questions - especially when Roger was talking about no newsman on the front lines. Jennings seemed really taken aback that the media should not be allowed at the front. Roger's point was that during WWII, all we had was the radio and we did just fine. The group really had a long discussion about what kind of military information can be given out. Kimberly Hunt did give some good examples about things their station was told by the Pentagon or the State Dept. which the station kept quiet until the appropriate time.
Jennings did seem to get a nice reception, but there were also a lot of boos about some of his opinions. And ... he genuinely seemed surprised that people did not agree with the things he was saying.

I can ask one question, which to choose, which to choose. "Petah, why are you an anti American ghoul" is the one my heart dictates, but must be more clever I suppose.

First, thank ABC for being the only network to show President Bush's speech in Atlanta last week. Then ask Peter what he thinks about the latest Gallup Poll that shows the media with the lowest approval rating of all institutions in America involved in the war, President Bush at 87 percent approval, and Congress at 77 percent? (I think the media came in at 23 percent approval, and only 3 percent had no opinion.) If you get a follow up, ask him why he did not see fit to report on the massacre at the church in Pakistan.
