We are not going to solve the problems of Africa, the Africans will or no one will. Even thinking you can is dangerous. If some righteous soul there asks for help, we should give it if we can, but to think that we are somehow responsible to protect their babies, is crazy. This story is horrific enough that it really doesn't matter what his motivation is as long as we know the depths of what really is happening in southern Africa, because so many myopic Americans want to believe that life is peaceful there now that apartheid and colonialism are a thing of the past.

To that effect, in 1980, Stevie Wonder recorded "Jammin'", which contained the following stanza:

I hate to sound like a Liberal, but wouldn't we be able to educate them, starting perhaps with the children? Just because a culture is savage, in our eyes, doesn't mean that they can't be "cultured." Take a look back at the Anglo's and Saxon's. They were a barbaric people, although I would venture to say that they probably never did anything so evil, or I pray so.

I just believe that we can't give up on a group of people because of their actions. Someone has to stand up for what is right and against what is wrong, and I believe we can all agree that this is definitely wrong, therefore we can and should take a stand against it and also attempt to remedy the evil.

I refer back to an earlier posting saying that they only way to solve this is through prayer, which I definitely believe.
