Money sent to Mexico by their people living here account for 1/3 of their national economy!! That is money that should be circulating in this country.

When I hear the 'doing the work no one wants to do', I always wonder who was doing the work before they came. They have not been here always.

OK. Your first paragraph was saracasm, wasn't it? Just in case it wasn't, these people do not pay taxes, SS or otherwise.

The charge of 'racism' has lost it's teeth. It just doesn't work anymore.

If your wife is here legally and contributing to this country and wants to become a citizen, then you above all should want our immigration system cleaned up.
But actually, no with only few exceptions, we do not need any more people in this country. As long as there are able-bodied, non-working Americans, we do not need any from others countries.

Since I don't know anything about you, I am trying to understand your stand on this. Have you been in this country long or are you native born?
I am looking at the immigration problem from the perspective of an older person who has lived in Texas all my life. My reason for wanting a halt to legal and illegal immigration is the very frightening loss of the American way of life. There is just no way we can put a price on that. It has been paid for with the life and limbs of too many Americans to give it away for the bottom line of corporations.
Our government has decided that people coming into this country do not need to even make an effort to become part of it. We will accommodate them in language, etc. That is just not right.
I am frightened, very frightened. Many of these people pay no taxes and depend on other taxpayers to provide the things that are their own responsibilities, ignore the laws of this country, and have no respect for it or no desire to become an American, except for the economic aspect.
Without all this cheap labor (that isn't so cheap to the taxpayers), we will have fewer advances in mechanization. If we need people with specialized training, then train them. I still have the belief that Americans can rise to the occasion. Some may have to be nudged, but I think they would.

Unfortunately, millions of the ones we are attracting are not the best nor the brightest.
But if we don't have more educated people here, then that is the fault of our education system and we need to change it.
All this 'we need these people' makes us sound like a bunch of ignorant, incapable people.
Just because a person has an education and can do a high-tech job does not mean he/she will be a good citizen of this country.
