Great writing. It's one of the things that has bothered me most about all of this. The media has "protected" us from seeing our own. We should see it. It should be burned into our souls.

I find it very therapeutic to e-mail the press and do it almost daily. (^: It will be an honor to send off THIS essay, an essay so appropriate and necessary for the press to understand. Well done.
Please add me to your ping list. Thank you. Hugs.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you on this:
The Afghan man mourning his son may never have had any warning because his government chose to keep him ignorant.
Actually, sadly, he did have the info. The article is here:
The planes came at nine . . . at 2am I buried my son

I stand corrected.
"They warned us what was going to happen but we had no money to leave," said Fazal, who earns a pound a day when he can find work.
His other (anti-Taliban) comments may be merely an exercise in prudently tailoring his message for the audience (a way of life for poor people everywhere), but in light of the hordes of refugees swarming over the countryside, it seems reasonable to me to believe his claim that he would've left had he been able. Not that that matters of course.

I didn't post to correct, just to inform ;^)
...but in light of the hordes of refugees swarming over the countryside, it seems reasonable to me to believe his claim that he would've left had he been able.
From the article:
After he had dragged himself from the rubble and the mayhem had subsided, Fazal buried Taj. He then paid a driver £15, every penny he had, to drive himself, his wife Bakhet and his surviving son and daughter to the Pakistani border.
Please don't get me wrong, my heart breaks for these people. But he was warned, at the very least. I sought solely to contrast the levels of "decency" in war.

Thank you so much for such kind words!! (And please forgive the length of time it's taken to respond to them...)
Is there something of the Gipper's you might recommend to the uninitiated?

This is war..and we worry how the world will see us instead of doing what this demands..
