We need to hear more thoughtful voices like this.

bump, maybe the Muslims who preach hatred towards the US and Israel could read this and reflect on what this author has to say. Instead of hijacking the religion to justify murdering us "Infidels" they should read that so called unjust murder is wrong.

Wow. The first Muslim who I have heard to raise his voic against the crimes of his own people. If more Muslims spoke in this way I could see a mutual trust developing. As it is, howeve,r I can not.
To: jalisco555
Outstanding call to Islam. I wonder how many will heed it.

Man, that's powerful stuff. Unfortunately I'm afraid that courageous individuals like Dr. Khan will be drowned out in the maelstrom of the ignorant and illiterate masses that make up the majority of Muslim countries.
But I thank him for trying, anyway.

It seems to me that it is long overdue for the mullahs (at least in the US) to pubically denounce the attack on the WTC and to issue fatwahs against those who performed the attacked and those who aided in the attack.
Unless and until the muslim leaders speak out and turn in the radicals within their communities, IMO, all muslims are prime suspects and should be treated as the enemy.
To: jalisco555
Well it's a start. Especially the point about packing up and leaving if you're not committed to the freedom you enjoy here.
He still falls short in failing to implore his co-religionists to root out the evil in their own ranks. The Muslim community knows more about who's involved that anyone else. And so far they're not talking. Until they do so the rest of us have a right to question their allegiances. "Condemning the violence" or saying it's contrary to the teachings of Islam is simply not enough.

In many cities Christian congregations have started wearing hijab to identify with fellow Muslim women.First I've heard of it. Where, pray tell, is this happening?

Unfortunatly it is written by an Indian Muslim..not an Arabic one..
The religious history of India is diverse, often with many gods..
I thank this man for his logical thought..but it means nothing!

>>But in the US, bigotry and xenophobia has been kept in check by media and leaders<<
No, it has been kept in check because we are Christians, and a peaceable people.
To: KC Burke
Truly awesome. Christians and Jews can learn from the virtues this man practises.

Thank you for posting this. The honesty of this voice can rip the evil ones to shreds if it is spoken loudly and often.

An outstanding essay that should get wide dissemination. This provides a model statement for the Islamic world to adopt. My respect to Dr. Kahn, a most courageous man.
