Any day OU loses is a good day.
The most telling assessment of OU is in Richard Hofstadter's Anti-Intellectualism in American Life. He quotes of former president of the University of Oklahoma as saying he hoped to build a university of which the football team could be proud.
Kinda says it all...

Well, this should prove an interesting college football season, as it already has.

...Don't buy into the Oklahoma State hype this week as the Cowboys get ready for Oklahoma, because quarterback Jason White has made all the difference in the world for the Sooners' offense and the Cowboys stand no chance in Norman...

THE Ohio State University Buckeyes vs. Ohio University Drunken Fratboys Bobcats. That wouldn't be a pretty football game.

I know this is not about the UT longhorns, but here is Ben Sargent's cartoon for today in the Austin Un-american Liberal Longhorn Rag. I thought it fits the current situation of the horns. Three UT horns arrested in the past two weeks.

University of Oklahoma as saying he hoped to build a university of which the football team could be proud. That was President George L. Cross, who was an excellent university president. The time was approximately 1949. I heard Pres. Cross say that very thing.
President Cross had the great good sense to hire Bud Wilkinson as football coach, and Bud built a team which had winning streaks of 31 and 47 games.
That was then. This is now. And President David Boren and his predecessors have presided over the building of an university whose academics make us indeed proud.
And Prexy Boren also had the great good sense to hire Bob Stoops as head football coach. Bob has built a football team of which the University can again be very proud.

Thanks for the history. I was in stationed at Ft. Sill for a couple of years during the Switzer era. I'm a college football fan, and like good, hard, well-fought games. I watched games live over the yearsr in the Pac 10, the Southern Conference, the Big Ten, the Ivy League, and others, but I've never seen anything like what I saw in Norman. I don't like the fans booing injured opposition players off the field, and cheering when there is an announcement that an injured opponent has a serious injury, which I witnessed in Norman. The crowd was bloodthristy, not merely enthusiastic. I've seen the blood lust in a mob, and it was the same thing.
I don't know about now, or even the distant past. I've only heard good about Bud Wilkinson as a coach and supporter of good sportsmanship.
