Nope. Not interested really. I'll keep my eye on the race but that's about it for me.

MEDAL OF HONOR RECIPIENTS FROM OPERATION ABILENE The page has links at the bottom for both men.
Regarding Coonts' Flight of the Intruder, it's been ten years since reading it, but I seem to recall LBJ comparing himself to an eager applicant for a teaching position in a small town. The applicant is asked whether the world is flat or round, and LBJ as the applicant responds that he can teach it either way.
LBJ defended his obscene target list "sanitizing" with some cornball crap a la "son, I'm trying to teach this Ho Chi Minh a lesson without getting us into WWIII".
After the war, North Vietnamese officials would remark they could not understand U.S. leaders' fear of Soviet or Chinese entry.
LBJ's veto of the Joint Chiefs' plea to bomb Hanoi and mine Haiphong in November 1965 was termed "The Day It Became the Longest War" by the Marine officer present as aide to the chiefs.
The disgusting duplicity and crippling meddling of such chancrous maggots as LBJ and McNamara is triply repugnant in view of the exceptional heroism of men such as Robinson and Pitsenbarger.
Thank God we now have leadership to support the troops in every manner possible.

I understand that Pits is a revered figure anong modern day PJ's. If anybody deserved the Medal Pits did.

Amen. They really were and are the best.
The story of Pit's is one of the most moving that I think we've ever done threads on.

Thanks for the post, Phil. I couldn't agree more with you about Johnson and McNamara. Make my blood boil every time I think of how they lied to the American people and sabotaged the war effort.

Sam, those homecoming photos must be doctored. The media tells me the troops aren't coming home because we are quagmiered. :)

Howdy, Snippy, and thanks for your kind words in the past. I tell you this honestly, there would be very few good men if there were not good women. Of course, there are never enough good men, but you know, that is true of women also!!! I personally include you with the good ones. And SAM.
My general rule about our good men going to the Viet Nam war has unfortunate exceptions, Kerry of Massachusetts, for instance. Now Kerrey of Nebraska, the old SEAL, I can respect, even though he is a Democrat. Kerrey hasn't been in the news much lately, maybe he has had a change of heart, I hope!

There are always exceptions, fortunately they are in the minority.
When speaking of good women, thanks for including me and when speaking of good men, you're right, SAM is definitely in that category.

As we know from prior Foxhole Threads, A1C Pitsenbarger's Air Force Cross was subsequently upgraded to a MOH, but many years later.
I've been out of touch this week. It gets worse next week.

Hi Cholera Joe. When you read the story of operation Abiliene you realize that Airman Pits earned his MOH. It's a shame it took so long to get it but he definately deserved the Honor.

Hi CholeraJoe, I thought you'd be by eventually for this thread, glad you made it even with your busy schedule. Pitsenbarger's story is a real tear jerker and one that should be told often, imo.

I think they're old World War II photos retouched with modern uniforms. Just more government propaganda. LOL!
