VE-Day crowds encroaching on Winston Churchill's open car, in the City of London's Parliament Square today, did Irish Guardsman Ivor White (circled) a big favour when they pushed him on to the running-board of the slowly moving vehicle.
Ivor eagerly stretched out his hand towards Winnie, and shouted the Irish Guards famous battle-cry . . . "Up, The Micks".
Grasping the Guardsman's hand momentarily, Winston replied . . . "Well done The Micks" and a few brief seconds of history were to remain in this soldier's memory for a lifetime.
