One fella was with a Lancashire Regiment which was with "Lord Wolseley's Army"..sent into the Sudan after the slaughter at Khartoum in 1885..[The End of Chinese Gordon]by the Mahdi".
The other was with unit assigned to Chelmsford during the Zulu battles at Ulundi.
Seeing that todays theme is great routes in History...a sad note for a Family member...Stanley Isherwood of HMS Barham..which was torpedoed in the Med in 41 ..her magazine let go.
Need to get a scanner ...Have a photo sent to me by a Sub Drivers son.
Its a Periscope photo from the late 60's ..shot from a U.S. Submarine doing wargames with the 7th Fleet in the Pacific.
In the crosshairs is USS Isherwood.
Lucky for DD-520..no live torpedoes were loosed like USS William D Porter did on USS Iowa with President Roosevelt aboard in 1943 : )
