"Part of Sadaam's strategy was to buy time for protests to have an effect. He guessed wrong with this administration." We feel the same way! We talked about this very thing when the protestors were out there, and he was publicly applauding and lauding their protests! Plus, he had a lot of allies. Allies like International A.N.S.W.E.R, Workers World Party, etc, and certain actors, actresses, and members of Congress and the Senate.
Well said FRiend!!

"Useful idiots" is a term that comes to mind when you talk about a lot the protestors.

Lost a day to a hard drive with angina pectoris now mysteriously back.
Almost ten years earlier the Joint Chiefs had tried to get LBJ to bomb Hanoi and mine Haiphong.
Their November 1965 15-minute meeting at the White House is told by the Marine officer (Captain at the time, General by time of article) in The Day It Became The Longest War, in May 1996 Proceedings.
[Not on line but I can fax the four magazine pages to anyone FReepmailing an interest in same.]
The sanitizing of target lists by LBJ cost us tens of thousands of lives, and I certainly hope his death in 1973 was painful and lonely.
When the military was allowed to make war, it was excellent, as our people are the finest and fiercest--shown by the latest hit "Road to Baghdad".
The U.S. media was at war with the U.S. military (all networks, NYT, Time, Newsweek, etc.) with the Democrats as allies.
They tried that recently and found it sends them crashing in flames.
I suggest the reverse of all of that political betrayal was demonstrated in this evening's speech by President Bush aboard USS Abraham Lincoln.
He spent more time shaking hands than speaking, having set the fighting men and women up to do what they do best, fight.
And he set them up to win, and they get to be honored.
LBJ and Nixon made much ado about provoking WWIII with the Soviet Union and Communist China.
That was either unconscionable timidity, faulty analysis or crass cover for lack of will.
I went door-to-door for someone who would have led us to victory:

But the country wanted a welfare state--and got it in spades.
