6. Flathead Lake in northwest Montana contains over 200 square miles of water and 185 miles of shoreline. It is considered the largest natural freshwater lake in the west.Depends on what you mean by largest, I suppose. It takes the prize in surface area, with 197 sq.mi. to Tahoe's 192 sq.mi., but Tahoe's a lot deeper and has more fresh water.

Personally have never experienced an earthquake like you describe. Am somewhat interested in "low probability phenomena" and find the New Madrid quake interesting. As I recollect the Richter scale is a base 10 logarithm so if N.M. was 8.7 then it was a hundred times more powerful than the Northridge quake. Looks to me more like 9+ than 8.7 though.
Yellowstone is the center of an ancient caldera that exploded a while back. The the explosion they say buried most of the USA in yards of ash.
I find the Hudson's Bay meteorite rather impressive, eh? Another event to ponder is the Chicxulub strike off of Yucatan - maybe a six mile diameter meteor - made a crater they say is 120 miles across and a mile deep. The tsunami resulting passed completely over Cuba.
The crater had to be much deeper than a tidily mile, don't you think? Can't see how it didn't extend deep into the mantle.
There is an interesting meteor strike effects calculator
here.
Put in big numbers, notice amazing thermal radiation densities involved, whew. A remarkable Universe.

I wanted to let you know that is not an original quote of mine. The author is below...
I neglected to use quotes. I don't want to get caught ripping anyone off. ;)
The more things change, the more they are the same.
[Plus ça change, plus cest la même chose]

Interesting read my friend . . . you have a knack for physical science. I once read Ellen Whyte's The Great Controversy about the rise and diversion of Christianity over 20 centuries. It seems the Seventh Day Adventists have followed many of the historical geologic events to determine there biblical significance. A little out of my league but fascinating to read. If I can find the time I'll look up some of these events and ask your thoughts about them.

I'm at work and can't consult my Bible but I believe the basic concept is in a verse from the book of Proverbs or maybe Psalms. I'll check it out later.
If this is true then God is the original author and I know he forgives you and Alphonse. \o/
