1967 Valin joins USAF (commies quake in fear, not to mention a couple of T.I.s who give serious consideration to sucide) Beginning of the end for that famous question, "Exactly how many steps does it take to walk around a C-130 at 0130 hours?"

Good morning all,
Interesting post, I was in Air Force ROTC before I came to my senses and joined the Marine Corps. We had a B 26 crew member come in and talk to us a few times. I remember him telling us how they engaged the fighters and supported each other with fire so that if one gunner reached the limit of traverse the next gunner would already be firing by the time the fighter came into their field of fire. It seems like a common sense tactic but according to him it took a lot of practice and communication. He said his crew was very good and most of the damage they caused to the fighters was done when the fighter would move from one gunners field of fire to another's. One of the things he attributed this to was the fighters pilots mentality of "if I can't see the gunner then the gunner can't see me" and by the time the fighter pilot could see the next gunner he was already receiving fire from him.
Anyway, I am sure you know better then I do how the gunners vectored each other onto target. Great post.

LOL. You gutless wonder! Actually I bet they left some in. :-)I've only got one spare part left, my appendix. At the current rate of usage, I may not make it to 111, and be able to see the Tri-Centennial.

Nice thread. A really beautiful aircraft for the genre.
I believe there are still B-26's in service as slurry bombers to attack Western wildfires.

Maybe they've been retired. There's been quite a few accidents in recent years of WWII vintage slurry bombers.
To: colorado tanker
That may be. Here is an interesting article about the program and its beginnings.

The only flying B-26 Marauder is in the hands of the CAF and is the aircraft I posted on the previous page #15 I think.
A couple of A-26 Invader Fire Attack aircraft.

I will do a little checking and see if there are any A-26s still in Fire Attack service.
