Memorial Day Poem
We walked among the crosses
Where our fallen soldiers lay.
And listened to the bugle
As taps began to play.
The Chaplin led a prayer
We stood with heads bowed low.
And I thought of fallen comrades
I had known so long ago.
They came from every city
Across this fertile land.
That we might live in freedom.
They lie here 'neath the sand.
I felt a little guilty
My sacrifice was small.
I only lost a little time
But these men lost their all.
Now the services are over
For this Memorial Day.
To the names upon these crosses
I just want to say,
Thanks for what you've given
No one could ask for more.
May you rest with God in heaven
From now through evermore.

Well, I can't make it yet through the first paragraph of any of those (I'm sure) lovely letters/articles that Snippy and Sam posted. First thing I saw on my comment's page was alfa6's photo of the memorial at sea. I will have to read after I'm settled more.
So, with all these tears in my eyes and true memorial of all those who have given their lives for my personal freedom I'd just like to add a little prayer for our nation to the Foxhole this morning.
Father, in the precious Name of Jesus I life up this nation to You. Lord our nation was founded as a nation upon Your Name and Your principles. Father, our liberty and our freedom in You has required the shed blood not only of Your Son Jesus, but also of the sons and daughters of America. Lord, I lift up each and every one of those sons and daughters today. I ask that this be a day of peace for remaining family members of those men and women. And Lord, for the ones who were lost so far in the past that there is no one to remember, I REMEMBER LORD. I remember that no blood has been shed in the defense of this nation that wasn't for me, my children, my family and my friends. Lord, I thank you that there are those who valued liberty enough to sacrifice and I sacrifice this day in remembrance to them.
Lord, on this day I also ask that you give special blessing to all those who are serving and have served our nation in the U.S. armed forces in the past. There are many who will read this who have served. Lord, I ask that you reward them with blessing as they read. In Jesus Name. Amen
