This is true to an extent. In another way this is part of Russia's negotiation with the United States, with China and Europe, and with their own moslem "minorities". Again, the logic of power controls events in Moscow just as it does in Washington.

The Russians intervene on the side of the "weaker", the Mullahs. The USA intervened on the side of the Mujaheddin in Afghanistan during the Soviet occupation for the same reasons. The Reagan Doctrine worked the same way.

Not a bad variant for a personnel carrier.

Phil, thanks for putting the McMaster stuff together--he's a real high energy type that exemplifies that old Army ad that says "We do more before 9:00 in the morning than..."

It has never been used as APC in the Polish Army and I think anywhere else beside Soviet/Russian Siberian divisions.
In Poland MT-LB was and still is used in many specialistic versions - ambulance, engeeniring vehicle, comand&control vehicle etc. The main reason is that this is a very cheap construction.

APC's used in the Polish Army are: OT-64 SKOT constructed in 60's by Poland and Czechoslovakia, however most of them in APC version were already withdrawn and are replaced by Finnish Patria AMV's, which are built in Poland under license. These OT-64 in socialistic variants are upgraded to Rys variant.

A few pictures of upgraded SKOT:
[Lynx] Rys M98 - Mortar Carrier

Rys E8, Wheeled APC - won't be bought by the Polish Army in this version.

Rys-MED (Lynx-MED) - medical evacuation vehicle.

Rys-RCWS127 (with 12,7 mm HMG)

2-34 Armor is an old unit of mine. I'm mighty proud of their fighting in this battle.

Twenty years ago today. God Bless the US Army! I read Major Douglas Mac Gregors book “Warriors Rage’’. Amazing and awe-inspiring.

Thanks for posting. Yes, 20 years. Time flies. I see you only joined FR last year, the Foxhole has lots of good short stories, some of the pictures are long gone but the stories live on to get folks interested. God Bless the US Military and our troops!
