Russians pretty much feel forced to pursue empire. So do the Chinese. This is the trend here in the USA as well.
The "Mexican" emigration, and of other nationalities, "civil rights" laws, etc. are aspects of this change.
This business has been going on for a long time, since the beginning, just picking up speed with every generation. Going backward in time, think direct election of Senators, women's suffrage, the way the Feds built the railroads, the 1861-65 war, Texas and Mexico, the settling of the Scots-Irish on the frontier beginning in the seventeenth century.
Ask the Indians what they think about uncontrolled emigration.
Not really bothered much about all this, don't get me wrong, it is just the way things are. "Nativism" won't lead anywhere good. It is just our turn in the barrel.
The schools still push the "melting pot", hah hah.

It is no exaggeration to see Sobieski and his people as the saviors of Civilization. None at all. One of the reasons for my affection for the Poles.
I only give credit where it is due. The Turks almost succeeded. The Iron Boot in the face for all time. Darkness.
Didn't know about the Ruthenian. Hmm.
"Republic" and "Empire" are hard to distinguish. Have listened to erudite discussions on the transition between the Roman Republic and Empire. "Here is where it changed. No, here. No, no, no, HERE". Real high IQ stuff.
Imperium can be what is neccessary. The Jagiello's "Federation" was Empire, and really so was Sobieski's government. These Empires were checks and balances affairs, not something "Peter the Great" would have liked. More like Aragon and Castile, Ferdinand and Isabella.

Good afternoon (?)
"what's the POlish governments position? They allowing immigration or limiting it?"
Now we have common "European" regulations. Until 2004 Russians, Belorussians and Ukrainians didn't need tourist visas to Poland, however they had small chances to work legally here. After Poland had joined EU, our government had to establish visas for them. Ukraine unlike Russia and Belarus didn't establish visas for Poles, so they don't have to pay for Polish visas and they can get it quite easily If aren't criminals etc., but these are only tourist visas - in reality they can't work legally in Poland, only some scientists or doctors have a chance to get some special permissions. Some of them work illegally in Poland, but it's not immigration - they work for a few weeks, for example during the harvest and then come back home. More frequently they are smuggling some alcohol or cigarettes or are selling something.
Europe is like a police state compared with the USA and that's why immigration is different here. It would be incredible If illegal immigrants cound get a driver license or study at the university - I read that it is possible in the USA. In Europe usually you have to show your ID even If you want to buy a monthly ticket or rent a book in the library. The reason that so many illegal immigrants (mostly Muslims) came to Western Europe was that they gave most of them status of refugees and soon later citizenship. They knew who they were, but anyway they didn't want to expel them.

Unfortunately "the West" don't react strongly.

"...or even a partition of the Ukraine for two parts, pro-Russian east and the pro-Western middle (with Kiev) and west."
I read some time ago that some Putin's advisor wrote in his book that eastern part should be incorporated by Russia and western part should be "given" to... Poland. Of course he didn't think about the fact that they should be asked If they want to be given to anyone and If we want to "take" them.
To: Iris7
Most people in eastern part really support Yanukowitch - strong Russian minority etc., but more than 60% is just not possible.

The owners who employ illegals are also penalized by various kinds of severe administration sanctions and must pay a huge fine. That's something we need to strt enforcing here,Dry up the demand and it'll slow the flow of illegals.

The problem with changing borders every 20 years or so is that no one knows who they really Belong too or are living somewhere they don't want to be.
