From the alpha (Bouck) to the omega (Kerry):
The end for Kerry I hope.
Thanks for the links.
The Key to the Bulge: The Battle for Losheimergraben
Oh boy!! A Bulge Book I haven't read!
Good job on the Kerry picture, you captured the real Kerry. :-)
Loved hearing that Ex-POW accusing Kerry of treason on Hannity and Colmes. :-)
BTTT!!!!!!!
Thanks, Phil. I think America is finally getting to know Lurch, and properly is rejecting what he stands for.
I learn at the master's knee. I am but a mere student.
I just came across your posting about the USS Hopewell (DD-181) while doing an internet search, and I wanted to reply. I'm not really familiar with this forum, but my great uncle, Herman Hansen, was a member of the Norwegian crew aboard this ship, when she was torpedoed on August 14, 1941. He did not survive. I've been reading Nightmare Convoy, by Paul Lund & Harry Ludlam, which is actually about this specific convoy that was bound for Gibraltar, and it's fascinating. But, of course, I'm always on the lookout for other sources of information. So, I was just curious where you got your information about the Hopewell (renamed KNM Bath) and how it came up in conversation. I couldn't find the beginning of the thread. Thanks.
I read your account of the Battle for Lanzerath with interest and would like to correct a few truths. Firstly the 9th Fj Rgt only lost 37 men killed at Lanzerath, from the 1st Battalion. The German paras took 17 American prisoners, which included 13 of Bouck's men, 3 more were sent to help Sgt Slape in the hamlet just before noon and were later captured by Volksgrenadier in nearby woods, 2 more men Jenkins & Preston were sent to the HQ at Hünningen. Lt Springer and 3 men from the Art Observation. Only 1 GI died and that was Billy Queen, I believ from New York who was killed by a burst of MG42 fire operated by a German Para named Bender who laid his gun on a fence post a fired a short burst toward his position. Queens body was neglected and was later found in January when the 99th Division re-took the ground. The 16 surviving GI's were taken to the Cafe Scholzen near the schoolhouse and were tended to by a Para doctor.
Hope this is of interest.
