Thanks Light Speed.
We got pretty good service out of the old post WWI era ships. Just proves that it isn't necessarily the equipment but the men who operate it.
Oops, I bet that one was fun to explain.
Shambo. LOL. I don't know where to begin, you've outdone yourself Phil and you just keep on doing it. This piece is hysterically funny.
Thats so true...and especially for the old ships of the Asiatic fleet which gave Japan all they could till they were used up early in 42.
Omaha Class CL USS Marblehead managed to make it back Stateside with damage....quite the story on how her crew kept the old gal running to make it home.
some hard luck too for the Asiatic fleet....the rapid fire 6" of USS Boise where lost to the fleet when Boise tore her bottom out on a uncharted reef.
USS Boise also had radar....this was a big setback for Admiral Hart.
Samwise, you better save up some bail money!
Evening Darksheare.
Yikes!
LOL....stayed over in Santa Cruz for a week
about a mile from Half Moon Bay.
well...yarp..yarp..yarp......every night for hours.
Guess it was a full moon period.....and all the male seals thought they where Elvis Presley.
sex from dusk till dawn : )
I thought it was hillarious....not so for the regular town folk.
I think they like seagulls their more than seals : )
by the way..they got Biggy seagulls...just like in Oregon.
dent the hood of your car when they park on you.
Had to shoe one away when visiting in Oregon...
Freakin thing was as big as a Turkey.....and had an attitude.
kinda....."Are you talkin ta me"!
couldn't get the thing off my car..it made faces at me...while onlookers in the parking laughed......sheesh!
Britain made good use of 50 of our old 4 stackers. :-)
Hiya Light Speed. Attack of the giant seagulls!
BTTT!!!!!!!
I certainly did. Very cool stuff. I went throught the Marine Corp Museum as well. The guys who signed the guest book immediately before me were a group of Her Majesty's Royal Marines.
Morning Snippy and Sam! Great story! I've never heard about it before. It's remarkable. There was a B-17 at an air show here a couple of years ago and they allowed us to take a look inside and see what it was like. The old vet that was the pilot of her said that even in the best of conditions flying a B-17 was like flying a giant oil leak.
Hi Lee. Do you have a September reenactment schedule? Sam and I will be around DC late September on business and will try to get up to Gettysburg. We'll be near Manassass too. Most websites I've found aren't up to date as far as activities.
Wow, what a story. (I'm trying to get caught up.)
LOL. I know the feeling. Good thing about the Foxhole is it will be there when you're ready. :-)
I sent the link to someone who was a B-17 pilot in WW II and is Internet-connected (rare, I think).
Cool. Thanks. I hope he enjoys it.
